Stolen Pandas
« on: December 10, 2020, 03:49:13 PM »
I am reposting this from the Numismatic Crime Information Center, F.B. Page.  I have nothing to do with this, just want to help them out.

A priority mail package being sent from Florida to CA has been reported
stolen/missing. The package was last scanned in Louisville, KY on November 18,
2020.
The package contained 2 just-graded submission orders, all Chinese Panda gold Coins. One order was 15 coins, another was 16. The submission numbers were 5851639 and 5851641. (So now that these are graded coins – {MS 68 to MS 70}, they all have one of these two serial numbers on the coins, (followed of course by
--001, -002, -003, etc).
The coins include:
1 oz Gold Pandas: 1983, 1984, 1986, 1992, 1999, 2003
½ oz Gold Pandas: 1986, 1990, 2003,
1/4 oz 1994, 1996, 2000, 2003
1/10 oz 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996
1/20 oz 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996

USPS is really slow right now.  I have an express package that hasn't moved for 1 week, it was a next-day guarantee.  Priority mail is taking 7-10 days rather than 2-3 days.  Historically I have avoided shipping from Nov 20-Dec 25 for this reason, but this year had no choice as I was out of town for most of the fall and have to get inventory to a certain level for year-end.

I wouldn't be surprised the package shows up in 1-2 weeks.

From reading the post, I got a feeling the coins were shipped from NGC.    From Florida and "2 just graded submission orders"

It all depends. I had a package tempted by FedEx employee and content was stolen.

I am hearing horror stories about UPS, Fed-ex, and USPS.  Of the three USPS to PO addresses seem to be the safest by far.  I am trying to limit any high-value sales to those with PO boxes during this time.  Priority mail sent out December 2-3 is 7-8 days, it is even worse now.  Families are not traveling for the holidays so they are shipping and volume is beyond PO ability to handle with Covid restrictions and lower headcount.

We all know X mas is worst time of year to ship due to temp postal employees.     Plus everyone is shipping everything now.....

Most all of my losses have been this time of year but none in the last 8 to 9 yrs.    Once in a while i mail a package and label the reverse "Bible Study Included".    That has worked so far.   Maybe i should put "Hazardous Material".

A official from Post Office was on the news last month and he said the Postal police (do not remember official name) have been removed from the Post Office and he does not know why......

100% agreed.  Worst if international mailing; not saying not bad during other months.

High shipment volumes are usual this time of year. With the pandemic, even more merchandise purchases are made from and delivered to peoples' homes. No shipping service is exempt from hiring temporary 'contingent' staff and shipping partner companies to fill the attrition and lost capacity from illness and disrupted supply chains. Where perishable merchandise is concerned, many vendors declare a shipping moratorium because predictable transit times cannot be reliably committed to. They take orders but ship when weather and other transit conditions are favorable for fast and safe shipment.

I consider this the new normal until the COVID-19 epidemic is brought under control and icy winter weather abates.

Bought 23 gold panda yesterday, the guy insisted on sending via overnight fed-ex, he paid $80 for shipping, this morning I woke up early to clear the driveway of 4 inches of snow, turns out the coins never even left the shipping state.
