Champion Macau Auction - best way to bid?
« on: November 13, 2020, 01:24:19 PM »
It appears there is a Champion Macau auction scheduled for later this month.  Just wondering if any members can suggest the best way to bid in this auction.  Last time I bid on Champion was years ago and received approval from their website.  But the site now appears stale with no activity or updates.

Thanks in advance for the info.

You can try LiveAuctioneers.com for online bidding.
But I have no experience how well it works.

As a collector, you should consider traveling to Macau for one of the Champion auctions.  It is so important to see the coins prior to bidding.  The auctions are held in a modern hotel facility which is just two blocks from the local coin show (which is held in an old and funky community center).  At this time, this travel is impossible for collectors from the USA.  Hopefully, one day in the future, the multitude of problems will be resolved.

Great advice as always from Mark.  I don't bid until I see the coins or have someone trusted like Mark see the coins.  I do make some exceptions for US auction houses eBay, Stacks, and Heritage, but for overseas auctions learned my lesson many years ago.

Arif, you don't bid until you see the coins: would that apply to only raw coins or for both raw and graded coins?
Thank you.
PA.

Raw coins for sure.  Graded coins depends on if eye appeal is important.

Given the difficulties in shipping coins right now, it may be wise to check in advance that you can receive the coins.

Best wishes,
