Interesting.  Didn't know there were multiple mints for the 1 Yuan Great Wall.

What about the other years?

Great wall 1 yuan were from 1980 till 1986,
but the most from circulation are years 1981 and 1985.
Years 1982, 1984 and 1986 are only from PROOF coin sets.
About 1983, I think both PROOF and circulation coins were minted, but I have not seen unc 1983 till now. And the year 1985 has two varieties, as you can see from the ebay listing.

I had this among my bookmarks http://modernchinacoins.com/modernchinacoins/1980-1986_SETS.html
Hope it can serve you in some way  :001_smile:

Got myself a 1980 mint set as the first MCC coins in my collection, which kicked it all off...

BTW, should I get these graded or should I leave them in the black holder?
I am affraid the plastic will destroy the coin, but really not sure if it is necessary though...

I would divide the price of set about 1100 euro by 7 coins in it, it makes about 160 euro, as the nominal is the highest and with some luck and in case the coin is in great condition, I would try to get as much as 200-250 euro. I think that saw the single coin only once or twice on auction it ended lower,  but it happens with rare coins  quite often that you can get a good bargain.

aragog - thank's a lot for your answer. It's right, the 1 Yuan Great Wall 1984 is not often seen out of the proof set. Is it right, that 1982, 1984 and 1986 1 Yuan Great Wall coins were only nintendo for the proof set?

Best wishes

I recalled reading somewhere regarding the 1980 Great Wall 1 Yuan MS, there are PCGS with "Sun-B1a1 w/o Brick (Regular Strike)"  or " Sun-B1a2 w/Brick (Regular Strike)".

Would someone post pictures and point out the difference between the with and without Brick.

I think there were pictures showing the differences on CCF, but I cannot find it.  So here is a comparison from NGC file photos; not very clear, but the difference is the brick pattern, or the lack of, under the battlements of the large watch tower

Need some clarification on the 1985.

http://china-mint.info/forum/index.php?topic=6481.msg41487#msg41487
* Shanghai Mint (small stars, narrow/small date, slant/low staircase)
* Shenyang Mint (large stars, wide/large date, low 5, horizontal staircase)

vs

http://www.ebay.com/itm/350995855784
* Shanghai Mint (large stars, small date)
* Shenyang Mint (small stars, large date)

Which is correct?

Found this on PCGS site regarding the 1984.  Would someone clarify the b1 and b3.  Was not aware there are 3 varieties (Shenyang Mint - Proof Small Date, Shanghai Mint - Proof Large Date, ???).  Got pictures of all three showing the difference?
