Having recently returned from China while I was living there as an expat., I did have a few occasions to ship some silver Pandas back to USA. The experience at the post office there was very dissimilar and unnerving as compared to that in USA. First of all, you must go with a Chinese native speaker, or for sure your coins may be stolen! The guy at the post office “needs” to open and inspect what you are shipping. I guess that they have to decide if it is worth stealing. Remember, no such thing as “privacy” in China. We had to fill out a form while he took out the coin to inspect. I then had to seal up the box in his presence and give it back to him so that he could throw it into a pile all the while I was hoping it would get out of town safely. Personally, I would NEVER ship anything of value (gold, platinum, etc.) under these circumstances of China Post. The relative “instant wealth” is just too tempting for the low-paid Chinese postal workers.  :sneaky2: Furthermore, I have learned not to trust any Chinese stranger  N6 to the degree that I would trust an American stranger  :thumbup1:. Also, there is no such thing as “accountability and responsibility” in China to the degree that there is in USA. You just have to take my word on those points! Oh, I need to stick to talking about “coins”! In the end, I guess that the postal worker liked me, my friendliness, and smile – all of my coins made it to USA! Luckily, I have finally made it back too!  N18

Interesting comment.  My father spent his college days in Chongqing dodging falling bombs from Japanese bombers.  It was a small city then, but Wikipedia says it has a population of 28.8 millions in 2010, which is over 3 times that of New York City!  So raw gold and silver sell in Chongqing, but numismatic items are still limited to the coastal cities.

edit: It is the municipality (which has different meaning) that has 28.8 million.  The urban areas only has 6-7 millions people, still not a small city.

Great video.  What does he do in China besides buy coins?  All of the videos are very educational and culturally informative. I look forward to all the new ones.  Thanks clearasvodka.

I'm not sure what else he does he does in China.  And, as far as I know, he is not yet a member of the Chinese Coin Forum, although many of us appreciate his video perspectives.

Just so all his coin related videos are in one place, I'll add the following here, which I put in a separate post a while ago.

"China Gold Coin 2013"
October 29, 2013

http://youtu.be/k6AsM7mHb2o

The video shows the inside of a high-end coin shop in China.  I was struck by the large number of NGC certified coins that the coin shop had, as opposed to just OMP.

I'm pretty sure this is the Shanghai Yintai coin store. It is owned by Mr. Zhang and is a marvelous place. I believe that Shanghai Yintai is the top distributor for CGCI in Shanghai. Unlike many dealers Mr. Zhang has a standalone store that is not part of a coin market. In his office there hangs a calligraphy scroll that reads in part, "Study history, never stop."  The late Nick Brown visited there once and a photo of him talking with Mr. Zhang is still on display.

Best wishes,
Peter Anthony
