Royal Canadian Mint Lunar Coins
« on: January 02, 2014, 04:07:40 PM »
The Canadian mint minting lunar silver coins shapped as the flower with mintages raging from 28,8000 to 50,000.
Didn't the Chinese do this 20+ years ago with mintages of 6000 for each year!  :confused1:
Yet the complete Chinese lunar silver flower set 1993 to 2004 can be purchased as a set for about $5000 in its entirety, omp, coas and boxes.

It seems the western mints are minting lunar coins and selling them at prices not much less than what it costs today to buy the exact original Chinese coins minted two decades ago.

Great point. Those CDN coins are a sore spot for me as well. I hate that they severely overcharge for these. I would never justify the cost compared to buying other coins that could be a better investment. It is a shame because they are really nice coins and I would love to collect them. Also, this is not just the CDN lunars, it is on most CDN coins. I refuse to spend 3-7 times more than spot on what is basically a bullion coin.

Where can you find complete set of China Lunar Flowers at USD 5000 with boxes and COA?
I have never seen them that low, especially not the 1993-2004 versions.
