Davidt3251 has covered off most of the situation, however one still exists that hasn't been talked about.

In Canada under our tariff code, any 99.5% gold and platinum is duty free. For silver it is 99.9%. So what happens if you buy from a dealer with Global Shipping and it meets the above criteria? In other words, who gets to keep these taxes that are imposed on a duty-free item, the manager of the Global system? What a ripoff.

I contacted a few sellers and some weren't even aware that this showed up in their eBay listings (this was just after they started this program and you had to opt out). Secondly....I just avoid these guys altogether.

The price depends on many variables including location of the individual, size of shipments, etc.
