Actually it's from north China, the area is now the XinJiang Uyghur Autonomous region, it borders Mongolia and Russia I think.

I'm sorry, but I'm not familiar with banknotes. Hopefully someone else will provide you with some information on that.

It is a 2500 yuan note (Uygur Temporary Note) dated 1947 by the Yili Branch of the Xinjiang Commercial Bank.

This note was printed locally from zinc plates.  It bears 2 signatures, the complete names of the signing persons are very complicated, namely (in Pinyin) Abu Du-luo-fu-mai-ke-su-mu (bank director) and Wu-mai-er-bo-ke-a-ji (president of the treasury of Ili). The date is "1366" after the calendar of the Hui minority. This year lasted from Nov.15, 1947 until Nov.2, 1948.
In february 1950, after the liberation of Xinjiang by the communists, 1250 Yuan of this note type were changed against 1 Yuan silver note.

In case that somebody is interested (I forgot to mention this in my previous post): The pagoda-like building behind the farmer with grapes in his hands is the Emin Pagoda (Umin Pagoda) in Turfan (Turpan). Sometimes in English called Suleiman's Minaret. It is 44 m high.
