Bob W:  I have one or two of the copper endangered species not graded and no sets.  What is a high grade for them?.....

Pandamonium: I am only looking for graded coins. The highest grade for most is MS69RD. They are relatively scarce above MS66RD. Ungraded the set of ten costs around $75 in uncirculated condition; around $100 on eBay.

It is nice to see these are also catching on. I have started to suspect that circulating coins in high grades will take off in a big way, yielding more investment returns than precious metal coins.

How many copper endangered species to a set?  9? 10?   Also, I see many lower level Chinese coins going up in value.  Today they are probably not considered lower level coins/medals.   The entire Chinese money market is ready to move up...........what a exciting market!.......

Pandamonium: There are ten coins to the copper Endangered Wildlife set.

1993 - Panda
1995 - Monkey
1996 - Dolphin, Tiger
1997 - Crane, Ibis
1998 - Alligator, Pheasant
1999 - Butterfly, Sturgeon

I am hoping to acquired eight graded sets to give to my grandchildren as Christmas gifts. If I fail to do that, I will fall back on acquiring them housed in the commemorative booklets each coin was issued in. Many of these are readily available.

BobW,

FYI, there is a 10-coin set in a sealed package prepared by a dealer in HK.

Thank you, poconopenn.

The seller thincat00 has a similar item (all ten coins) which he claims was sealed at the mint for sale on eBay for $129. I was unaware the mint issued such a set.

The five Chinese characters on the right top corner of the holder in thincat00's listing are not clear in the picture, but do not look like China Mint. Coingot Coins of Beijing was authorized by The People's Bank of China and China Gold Coin Inc to issue booklets for all circulated and proof Cu-Ni coin since 1993. They can be in a single coin folder or annual booklet. Usually, the coins in those packages can be graded  better; MS65 or PR67 is about the average.

Following to the "red book 2011" the mintage is 6 million.
Nice coins. Because of the mintage I never bought them. Hope to get them in good condition sometimes.
