Hello,
I am new so sorry if there is already a discussion for this topic but I don't know where to look.
I have been left a jewellery box by my grandmother and I found an old sycee in a boat shape, i have tried researching it online but I have yet to find any with the same symbol as mine. So I was wondering if anyone could help me.

thank you in advance for any help!

Sycees are a specialized subset of Chinese collecting.
You need to consult an expert.

Nowadays there are many many fakes.
Members here will try and help you find answers.
Yours looks marvelous.

Good luck!

I have no experience regarding sycees but I can at least help you identify the Chinese character.

The symbol is the "Double Happiness" character.

Please be aware that your sycee may be a novelty gift from a Chinese wedding in which case it probably is not made of silver.

Thank you for the info! I've been searching and searching but It's very difficult to find any information.
I've found one similar on ebay but even that one has slightly different markings around the edge of the symbol.

I am going to try and find an expert to help me but I'm not so sure there will be any in my area. I am really hoping it is the real thing! That would be amazing. My grandmother was born in Shanghai in 1929 and grew up there so even if it's only a novelty gift I have high hopes that it won't be a fake. I have also found a mounted "fat man" Chinese dollar amongst her collection, which I would like to look into!

Do you guys recommend any particular sites on this kind of information?

Thank you again for your help.

Hi All!
Here is my genuine 1 Tael silver sycee.Anybody can see the difference. Those "bubbles" at bottom are typical on genuine pieces.
There are more than 25.000 views of this topic,so I thought that my comment could be useful. However.... I'm not a sycee expert...

From the shape, chopmark and other things, Your sycee looks fine for me. Next time, please also take picture for bottom of the sycee since it will be extremely help for judging. Those sycee are mainly from Shanxi province and comes with chopmarks like 福 禄 寿 囍 and so on....
