Hey Birdman, that's an awful nice looking MS68 2003.   I have one in my collection already, but hope you don't mind my asking....what are you seeing in person that landed it at MS68 vs. MS69?   The fields on the obverse look superb, the Panda's head looks clean and free of rub, even the area between the eyes looks great.  This looks like a really nice coin at that grade...I'd expect you to have quick success moving this, at least from those photos.

Hi Honus,

It is difficult to get inside the mind of a grader and understand what led them to make a decision. I searched the surfaces of the coin with a hand lens. If I had to speculate, I'd say that a tiny imperfection several millimeters to the right of the base stairs might be what they saw under magnification.  Having said that, I have MS69 coins that have more surface imperfections and less eye appeal than this one :confused1:  I even received an MS70 once that had a significant imperfection that was visible without magnification (I didn't complain about the grade!).  It seems that sometimes it is just a roll of the dice with the grading companies .

Nonetheless, this coin is an attractive example of the type that is available for only a modest premium above bullion price.   N47
