Elaine,
I think the issue for collectors of Pandas isn't so much the true mintage but how many survive in collectible condition. So many of both the gold and silver coins were mishandled by bullion buyers over the years. People cut them out of their pouches and stacked them in their vaults, scratching and scuffing the coins in the process. I've seen hundreds of Pandas at a time lined up on a tray, jostling each other, as they are traded as bullion. There were also a significant number of gold Pandas melted during the slow years so the gold could be used for other things like jewelry. Even if we knew the true mintages for silver and gold Pandas it wouldn't tell us much about the remaining populations of B.U. coins for collectors.
Best wishes,
Peter Anthony

It sounds like this book has more emphasis on the gold coins.  Is that true?  Does it do a good job breaking down mintages and varieties on silver pandas?

Yes, it does. The only thing I didn't find so far is the set of 2008 bimetalic Lunar Pandas. It does show 2005 to 2007, as well as 2009 sets. Then again, what do I know anyway.
