I don't have the option to give karma anymore
Was there some change that I missed

I believe a minimum of 100 posts is required to leave karma for someone.

Thanks for the information. Thought I read it was 50.
Happy Boxing Day everyone!

Can someone explain to me how karma points work and what they are used for?

Once you reach a post # threshold (maybe 50 posts?), you will be able to click on one of two blue words below a user's name, "applaud" or "smite." Clicking applaud gives a user a "karma" point, which basically means that you feel that a post they made was beneficial to the community or deserving of positive recognition. Clicking smite takes away a karma point from that user, indicating your feeling that a post they made was rude/inappropriate or unhelpful.

Karma points are not used for anything (as far as I know). Karma is just a marker of how the community feels about your comments you make on this forum. A poster with positive karma may be viewed as a member whose contributions are helpful and positive.

geoxxx becomes the latest victim of "unfair" practice of our karma system.  He only has 17 posts so far, and anyone can quickly scan them to notice he didn't post anything derogatory or inappropriate.  Yet, he has -2 karma !!  Can anyone explain to me, what exactly did he do to earn those "smites"?  And who left the "smite"?  Is this how we treat newcomers?    N26

Oh  thank you guys for explaining this...
there must be a lot of bitter people in the world if I'm already getting smites
I don't think I have done anything mean to anyone.

Geo,

Don't sweat the small stuff. I think it's kind of ridiculous and never used it before but just this once I left You an applaud and dynamike for his support and common sense.

Someone may want to rethink this whole karma thing as for me and many others that are new here it is a major turn off. I see it as either a thumbs up and pat on the back or a Middle Finger and a big F**k You!  everyone I have seen , me included that posted positive things or that we had the 2001 small d silver pandas were given negative karma, if you look through our posts there was nothing inappropriate what soever , Geoxxx had a negative after 1 post! And Thor ?? I have read his posts on the ss forum for quite some time and never seen anything offensive by him or any others with the negative Karma, and if this is going to get me more negative bring it on I really dont care. I just thought someone in charge may want to get an opinion from a new member, I am sure it started with good intentions but I think someone may have underestimated the maturity level on this forum and human nature in general...

Why worry what others think?

I agree with what GDG said.  Small stuff.

And take comfort from the quote: "If you aren't controversial, you haven't done anything substantial"
"He who speaks without modesty will find it difficult to make his words good."

You are both absolutely right.
I'm new here and I couldn't understand why I was getting negative karma
But who cares...

I feel mistreated too, i have only 12 Posts and already -2 Karma, that's not fair,

 please snowball,
change the Rules about Karma, Members should not be able to give Karma to new Members before a new Member himself not able is to give Karma Points,
what have i done wrong to deserve a -2 Karma, this is humiliating.
I cant give no positive nor negative Karma but others could smite me only for being Newcomer.
