I think the 1987 is the correct date and 1985 could be a misprint.  Not 100% sure so lets hear what the forum has to say.........

Good eye. They are almost identical but 2 different medals. My guess is that Luckly's medal may be cast by the Shanghai mint but may not be an official mint release. BTW welcome to the forum.

hey there fever.. yeah the medal looks in fantastic shape too maybe they cranked it out during the a.m.  :w00t:
eligible for that coveted ngc "nite shift" label

but seriously it would be eliglble potentially if w/ coa for grading i feel left assuming if what you speculate is correct
anywhooo i'm pretty much so green to mcc i'll just wait for more to chime in

I've always steered clear of Lucky's eBay offerings as they are always lower priced and slightly different that the ones graded by the PGCs. I believe that most of his coins/medals are knock offs of non-official releases of some sort, which he does not appropriately disclose. I may be completely wrong abotu this, however, I am very skeptical and will not park my $$ in his products at this time. DYODD.

struck "1987" on reverse

vs. lucky's no date medal

ok few questions pop to mind but i'm sure they'd be obvious to someone here... any help?

The medal from Lucky is not an official release. The crucial difference between the two is that on the obverse, the 1987 medal has "China Mint Co.", while the 1985 medal has no such text.

I have bought a lot of medals from Luckmoneyro and he does not sell knock offs.
Most of his medals may not be official releases but NGC will still grade them. For example, the gilt brass goldfish and pagoda medals.

I have also bought several medals from Luckymoney and NGC has given me some good grades on them. He seems to take all of the information for his ebay listings right off of the COA. He could have made a mistake on the date but I would be surprised. I have had very good results on my dealings with him. He ships fast and does a great job of packing the coins. Even the very large medals  arrive in great shape.
