Your 1950s King Fook 5 Taels (6 oz.) gold bar fetched $16,800 at Heritage Auction ended yesterday.

Although I'd like to, I can't believe that is correct ? - these have been recently available with no takers at $9,000 US.

Thanks wg, just a great link w/ fantastic photos.     Took my rusty computer some time to translate.     Lots of Chinese coin lovers worldwide now and easy to see why.     I agree w/ many articles that 2018 will be the rise of the Yuan and some of the best of Chinese money will be these beauties.     At some point prices/demand should take off again, maybe after Chinese New Year?    How can anyone w/ any amount of basic common sense not want to own Chinese coins?.......

IDK but from the picture and description of the setup for minting I suspect they relied on a solid core to reduce the variables they had to contend with but I could be wrong.

BTW I don’t own this ball and I have not ordered one. Thanks.
