1/10 Gold lunars
« on: October 17, 2012, 07:06:23 AM »
Understood the 1/10 gold lunars started in 1997 with the year of the ox, with mintages at 48,000 right up to 2005 where its 60,000.
Personally i think these coins are very beautiful and affordable for the size, the other 1/2oz gold lunars are just unreachable for someone with shallow pockets like me. What i really like is the different building themes and designs on the obverse, unlike the pandas.

Thing is theyre quite rarely seen or available.
Just wondering could many of them are in China and did not get exported as widely as the pandas?

Anyways here is the only one i have, hope to see yours if you have them :)

Yeah, mine too for a little more than what you paid.

Still not many 1/10 lunars can be seen available anytime...

Now the price for 1/10oz. Gold lunar set are more reasonable and it is a good time to accumulate them. I always like the colour ones.

Heres an update and upgrade to my 97 1/10 ox  :)
Got it recently for $400 , not sure if its a good price to pay. The 69 developed a sizeable dark red spot gradually over these few years, looks like it will affect its value if i wanted to sell it :(

Anyways, mintages for these 1/10 gold lunars are 48,000 from 1997-2004. 60,000 from 2005-2008.
Seems like coins from 2002-2006, horse, goat, monkey, rooster and dog are pricier and harder to find especially 02, 03 and 04.
Wonder why. Could it be that the actual mintages for those years are lesser?

Congratulations. You obviously have a passion for these coins. Consider using the intercept archival bags to prevent/retard coin surface deterioration. You probably already know about those bags. Goodluck!

Thanks KOT! I have been using poly bags for my coin slabs, now I am switching to intercept archive bags.

Thanks :)
The creativeness and attractiveness of the design both obverse and reverse depicting the 12 Chinese lunar animals and historical buildings/ temples + the 1/10 size that is just nice for me and the wallet cut it.

If only these coins are easier to find available and at prices im comfortable with. But then again, that is the process and fun in acquiring and collecting aint it :) Hopefully could assemble a set from 1997-2008 in the future.
