A 50Y 2010 1 oz? Hmmm...

http://cgi.ebay.com/2010-10-Yuan-1-oz-Silver-Chinese-Panda-/220698954688?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3362aecbc0

The item shows a copy one of the old pre-release publicity photos from 2009 that combines a 50 Yuan reverse with a 10 Yuan obverse.

Best wishes,
Peter Anthony

Looks like (jarousn) fake 2000 mirror and fake 2001-D seller is out of business for now. Looks like all auctions ended suddenly.

Seller "jim_teri" is a very reputable and a long time seller of panda coins. Apparent pictures (5 oz panda) and title (1 oz panda)does not match. I have emailed the seller for this mistake.

I've brought from this seller before without any problem. I think it's just an honest mistake.

Got it. Fair enough; the '50Y' just caught my eye. I know there are mis-denominated counterfeits out there. Hopefully he fixes it, since others have probably noticed this and steered clear.

And some times, jim_teri's pictures are being used by fake coin sellers.

All Imperial and Republic gold and silver coins and medals listed by seller "lily1689988" are fake.

There are a lot of postings about sellers of fake coins and we need to keep on posting them to inform everyone.

I want to gauge what is the opinion on those sellers of real coins/medals that are double and sometime more than triple the fair market price?  I'm all in for making a profit.  But sometime I cannot help but to feel like they are border lining on "cheating" the average buyers.  Guess it is caveat emptor!

Just my 2 cents.

Some sellers are fishing for what's being called a "whale" amongst the dealers. Basically, a seller of a rare coin dramatically overprices the coin, hoping to find an unsophisticated buyer to pay the unfair price. The buyer is the "whale".

I have been the "whale" a few times myself, but not because I didn't know what the fair price for the coin was. Prices are moving up so fast that dealers have to mark up their prices very high so they can make enough profit to replace the coins they sell. That means sometimes if you want the coin, you have to pay a whale-price to get it.

So far, I've never regretted it. The longest I've had to wait for the coin to double in price was less than 2 years, and that was during the 2008 pullback, which was no big deal.

So, in short, what's a whale price and what isn't just depends on how rare the coin is. If nobody else has the coin for sale, then maybe it's not really a whale price. Just shop around to make sure you're not getting reeled in as a whale.

Seller "lz_zzjie" currently lists 19 fake pandas. The listings are being bidded heavily.

first item is listed as 2008 but actually a 1984 with wrong front (obverse) and 2003 reverse with wrong demonination. I should buy this and send to Peter A.'s "hall of shame coins" ..but lets get rid of this guy.

That's a funny one! Don't spend your money on it, though. I'll see if someone in China can get it for me inexpensively.

Best wishes,
Peter Anthony
