Hi, thanks! It would be better if you can attach the link or more evidence when brought up the names.

OK here goes:
1985 Silver Panda - http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/1985-Year-China-Panda-10-yuan-silver-coin-1oz-/200469689793?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2eacecb5c1

2003 Silver Panda - http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/2003-Year-China-Panda-10-yuan-silver-coin-1oz-/200469688727?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2eacecb197

2000 Silver Panda - http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/2000-Year-China-Panda-10-yuan-silver-coin-1oz-/190394928370?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c546c0cf2

He has some ancient coins for sale too but I can't tell if they are for real

Thank you chinesecoinworks, he tried to end the selling items. I have looked at one of the picture and it looks like a fake one.

Another interesting observation is that, most of these fake coins came from eBay seller of China. Not only the Panda coins are fake, but also some of the 5oz Lunar silver. So be careful please!

Interesting reading can be found by looking at:- www.rarechinesecoins.info
Then select 'Top Chinese Numismatic sites' then click on 'Blacklist', found in a list on the left-hand side.
This gives a very very comprehensive list of fake coin sellers/offenders.

Seriously, this has reached the stage that the whole Chinese export market of 'collectables' is being tarnished by the few. China now has a terrible reputation. It is bye the way, illegal in China to post coins by mail. If they claim they are coins, then they are breaking Chinese law if they post them, and the important word here is post. So if we can find out who they really are, then who knows, maybe Chinese law will do something (unless they have been bribed of course).

This seller also lists at US eBay. Same pictures and fake coins as "colorful8878", "updang1", "soul.hk", "ziyun57869", "jueduiku922's" and "haochyntian2009". All these sellers are related. They sell cheap gift items to build feedback before starting to sell fake coins.

This seller,“andylove209010”, has an identical pattern as “zhouyiming2009”. “zhouyiming2009" sold more than seven thousand cheap gift items in less than one month to become a top-rated seller prior to sell fake 1 oz gold pandas. Total of 80 fake 1 oz gold pandas were sold below the gold value before eBay removed this seller two days ago.

Here is another seller "merchant.cs" from China, sold 69 1 oz fake gold panda in one day (9/19), at price below the gold value. The pictures of listings are identical to "zhouyiming2009". Again this seller sold many cheap gift items in the last two months to become a creditable seller. All listings are one day duration for weekend.

http://completed.shop.ebay.com/merchant.cs/m.html?rt=nc&LH_Complete=1&_fln=1&_sacat=11116&_trksid=p3911.c0.m283&_rdc=1

There are 20 1 oz fake gold pandas in  the current active listings which will be ended in the next 12 hours.

Here is another seller, located in China with a feedback score more than 5,000. Seller “jewerly929” sold more than 10,000 cheap items in last 6 months and started to sell fake 1 oz gold panda on 9/22/10.

Completed listings of 68 1 oz gold panda. All coins were sold in last three days (9/22-9/24) with a ending value about 50% of the gold value.

http://completed.shop.ebay.com/Coins-World-/256/i.html?LH_Complete=1&_catref=1&_fln=1&_ipg=50&_since=15&_sop=12&_ssn=jewelry929&_trksid=p3911.c0.m282

Current active listings have two  fake 1 oz gold pandas . Both coins have a BIN price at $999 and more than 10 available.

http://shop.ebay.com/jewelry929/m.html?_nkw=gold+panda&_sacat=0&_odkw=&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3911.c0.m270.l1313

This seller has an identical pattern as other scammers “andylove209010” and “zhouyiming2009”, mentioned above. The pictures of 1 oz gold panda are identical to those scammers. They may be the same person or at least related.

One person definitely can't do all the works.   We are facing a group here.
If eBay can't find a way to stop them, no doubt we will see more gold panda scams.

Scammer “jewelry929” just changes ID to "sw888k".

This seller has no current active listing for gold panda, but still has about 700 items of cheap jewelry items.

It is my understanding that the scammers do ship the fake gold coins with a tracking #. The fake coin is gold plated copper coin, weighs about 23gm and cost about $5, as shown in the pictures.. The shipping time will be about 3-4 weeks. Therefore, eBay will not take any action until several defruaded buyers file dispute report for refund. As soon as the seller can prove the delivery of item, eBay/Paypal can not hold the fund in the seller's account, unless the buyer files dispute before the delivery. Since all listings were completed in a span of 2-3 days. Most likely, all items will be shipped the same day and received by buyers about the same time. Clearly, these scammers were to try to time feedback received so it would happen after the scam was complete and funds removed from PayPal. These scammers definitely have the chance to take some money (not all) and run before eBay/Paypal can take action. We have a pretty sophisticated group of crook on our hands.

I notified one seller at one time and I was called every name in the book and that he had 40+ years of experience in dealing with coin.

Just my 2 cents.

This seller knows exactly what his/her items, fake coins. The only description of those fake coins is "The picture is exactly what your bidding on and will get".

Reported.

"marylq1987" has the same MO as "andylove209010",“zhouyiming2009", "merchant.cs" and “jewerly929”; starting as a cheap bead seller to amass tremendous feedback and confidence prior to pulling the scamming trigger. This seller currently has 26 listings of fake 1 oz gold panda. 21 listings will be ended in less than one hour (one day listing) and 5 BIN listings ($999 for 1 oz gold) have multiple items, more than 10 avaliable.

In addition  to 26 listings mentioned above, seller "marylq1987" also listed 1996 1 oz gold unicorn (pictures show the fake coin is 0.5 oz), a multiple listing with more than 10 available.

http://cgi.ebay.com/china-Gold-kirin-Coin-1-oz-999-/280575783353?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item41539eb1b9

Pictures of this fake 0.5 oz gold unicorn are attached herein for future reference. Both 1 in 100 yuan and in 1996 are different from the genuine coin.

Seller "marylq1987" just revised many bead items, which will be ended in about 12 hours, into gold panda listings, therefore the duration of listing is actually less than 24 hours, most likely 12 hours. The current active listings are 29 gold pandas.

The completed listings (20 gold pandas):

That's a reportable ebay policy violation, to substantially change listings like that.

Seller "marylq1987" changed ID to "gead158" and swatched to "private" feedback.

http://contact.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ReturnUserIdHistory&requested=gead158

http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=gead158&&iid=270649912652&sspagename=VIP:feedback&ftab=FeedbackAsSeller

This is a standard operation procedure for eBay scammers.

Seller "rianbowbill10" also has the following five more fake pandas in the listing. Other pandas appear to be genuine.

If anybody wonders why the photo of the 2000 is of a fake coin, here are some hints:

1. The silver plating is so thin it allows the less reflective base metal to show through in places
2. The fur detail is wrong
3. The shape of the Temple is off
4. The clincher; the carpet on the Temple steps has a pattern on it. This detail did not appear on 1 oz. silver Pandas until 2002

The verdict is in; guilty as charged.

Best wishes,

That seller sells a variety of different coins. Do you think maybe he is unaware that his panda coins are fake? Has anybody sent him a message to tell him, just in case he's an unaware victim?

Yes, I have the same feeling that he's unaware that he is selling fakes. Cos he does have some real coins for sale.

Many scammers mix fake and genuine coins in the listings to avoid the detection. I do not know if this is the case. They are three PCGS slabbed Morgan dollars listed by this seller also questionable. IMO. they are fake coin in fake slab and known to be produced in China. The seller has responded to my emails and indicating those coins are consignment items and will discuss with the owner about those coins. In fact, the seller has admitted those panda coins are underweight. The last email was received six hours ago. Up to now those listings are still active.

The seller, RainbowBill, has emailed that he will do the right thing about the fakes. He seems to be a victim of a scam and writes that he wants to show the coins to an expert to get confirmation that they are fakes. I sincerely hope he pulls these coins off eBay — the sooner the better — and that he gets his money back from the fellow who sold them to him. RainbowBill needs to act fast, though, or he will reserve for himself a permanent spot on the Wall of Shame.

Seller "rianbowbill10" did not remove the fake items and two fake coins had ended. This seller was knowingly selling fake coins, since the seller had admitted that the coins were underweight and agreed to remove those items.

It would probably take a major dealer to have 20 of 2000 mirrored Panda .. This one has longer nose and the centre of the stairs is wide than the sides.

Fake 1983 1 oz silver panda.

Seller "jerry9351" listed two fake 1983 1 oz silver pandas at BIN $60. Since seller stated the coin has very low mintage in the title, he/she has to know these are fake coins. Both coins were listed at foreign silver section instead of China.

Here is a listing of 1983 silver panda in a NGC body bag, having identical pictures of the fake coin mentioned above.

Has anyone contacted Ebay about this fellow? I see that someone bought one. I'm tempted to call the RCMP here in Canada for their opnion as he gives Ontario as a base of operation. Trouble is, that it isn't a Canadian coin or currency. Any thoughts? cheers

There are a lot of postings about sellers of fake coins and we need to keep on posting them to inform everyone.

I want to gauge what is the opinion on those sellers of real coins/medals that are double and sometime more than triple the fair market price?  I'm all in for making a profit.  But sometime I cannot help but to feel like they are border lining on "cheating" the average buyers.  Guess it is caveat emptor!

Just my 2 cents.

Some sellers are fishing for what's being called a "whale" amongst the dealers. Basically, a seller of a rare coin dramatically overprices the coin, hoping to find an unsophisticated buyer to pay the unfair price. The buyer is the "whale".

I have been the "whale" a few times myself, but not because I didn't know what the fair price for the coin was. Prices are moving up so fast that dealers have to mark up their prices very high so they can make enough profit to replace the coins they sell. That means sometimes if you want the coin, you have to pay a whale-price to get it.

So far, I've never regretted it. The longest I've had to wait for the coin to double in price was less than 2 years, and that was during the 2008 pullback, which was no big deal.

So, in short, what's a whale price and what isn't just depends on how rare the coin is. If nobody else has the coin for sale, then maybe it's not really a whale price. Just shop around to make sure you're not getting reeled in as a whale.

Seller "lz_zzjie" currently lists 19 fake pandas. The listings are being bidded heavily.

first item is listed as 2008 but actually a 1984 with wrong front (obverse) and 2003 reverse with wrong demonination. I should buy this and send to Peter A.'s "hall of shame coins" ..but lets get rid of this guy.

That's a funny one! Don't spend your money on it, though. I'll see if someone in China can get it for me inexpensively.

ha...yes I'll save my money...going to report this guy tho. At least I'll try too.

Add edit:
Well I reported this one item. Ebay makes it hard as you have to describe problem in just a few words. Will see what happens. Maybe if others report as well, we can take care of this guy. He has other fakes listed as well.

Digbird,

The item was removed. Good work.

You can report the fake coin in the following eBay site. It will allow your to report 10 items at the same time and provide you with space of 10,000 characters to make your case.

This guy named cmuabbx was brought to my attention so checked him out.

If you want a dynamite collection of fakes..have a look.

I'm hoping others will contact ebay as well. What do you think?

What a cumbersome system for reporting fake sellers. I tried "poconopenn's link above and didn't work right. but got thru on sellers first item listed. I hope others will help report this guy..we need to clean up ebay, and make it safe for newbies bidding on these things, they will get hurt financially.

Any views or opinions? cheers

The weblink mentioned above is for US eBay. Seller "cmuabbx" is selling fake coins at Canada eBay. We may not be able to do anything with this seller by reporting to US eBay.

Yes, all coins are fake.

I think your right Poconopenn. I signed in thru the US site and it flipped right to ebay.ca and was a page that displayed "selling problems". I see he is still selling this morning..all with bids. Reporting is a problem for mass listings. So I just went to his first listing. The box they give you to type the digits into allows very few words. Not a great setup. I'm hoping others will pile on and take this guy down. cheers

Well he is still selling..but the one I reported on must have been pulled..auction was over, but wasn't in his "completed auctions". Was a 1984 with a 2003 20Yuan denomination on reverse...weighed 1oz..should be 27grams...on and on and on.

Hi this member of Ebay "newopening" was selling some fake silver bars exacly the same as the ones I was conned into buying from "jamie-smile" . I am concerned he is trying to build up feedback and then sell fake bars to others. I messaged him about his bars and they have now either been removed or sold but either way I think he should be listed here. Thanks

Sometimes sellers don't know the items they're selling are fake. However, this seller you're mentioning here is selling jewelry using photos from other people's accounts. That's a huge red flag.

Hi,
Yes I agree 100% and that could well be an excuse however I did message him or her to let them know. I have learned not to trust sellers in China with silver. I now mainly use the Canadian sellers and buy Maples instead. As far as I can tell so far all these 1 ounce Maples have been ok.

Update to my post #84 this thread.

A few of us ganged up and reported this guy. Ebay sort of let us down as they pulled 7 of the 11 fake coins. Yes...small inroads, but they should have shut this guy down 100% and pulled all 11 items. Progress is sometimes very slow. Thought I'd bring you up to date.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=310289829841

Need your help in reporting this group.
What's wrong?
(1) no denomination on Panda side.
(2) wrong temple sides and details for the years stated.
(3) both from same seller...

These are getting up there in price, someone is going to get royally burnt. This is blatant cheating/robbery.  cheers....

Question: At the top of this page (post#90) I alerted others and ebay on the two items, which were multiple coins. They pulled them..but I had stored them in My Ebay..well they came back on and went to $1,300.00 for one item of 12 coins. Why would they let this happen after so many reports? The second lot was for 12 coins as well but didn't reach the high price of the first lot. Someone is going to get really ticked. So  why would they let this happen? This was also noted by another fellow collector. Did the seller talk his way out? Any ideas? thanks

Add edit. ..if you click on the links above..say's removed or no longer available...yet in my ebay I can see it was still alive? Are they blocking hit's from this site? just curious

I purchased a gold 2010 1 oz on Ebay last December that was "sealed" and looked authentic (as compared to other similar coins offered). I paid 1423.00 (with three other bids) so it wasn't suspicious as gold had pulled back a little. When I received it, it looked so authentic I had no reason to suspect it was a fake. The seller notified me that it was suspect and possibly a fake, so the transaction was nullified and my money returned. The scary thing is that these coins are so real looking and it can't be accurately weighed without removing the plastic mint pouch. I'm amazed at the fact that high production coins are being faked!

In one of the European website old guy sells crude fakes of old chinese silver coins

He doesn't give the real weight, diameter and thickness of the coins only refer to SCWC 1801-1900 and also SCWC 1901-2000.

However some of his "chinese silver coins" don't even exist!

Please check photos below and share your opinion.

When I reported this to the person who is responsible for the website.

This guy who sells fakes put such of info "Not sure if those coins are real or fake"

They didn't even care to move his fake coins to the section with fakes, so he can still fool people with his fakes

He sold those fakes for 4,5 US$ to 63 US$

I found some chinese seller who sells fakes:

http://shop33222141.taobao.com/?search=y

He has a shop on chinese taobao.com (like eBay).

Hope this guy doesn't have any shop on eBay and doesn't cheat people with his cheap fakes!

BTW, does anyone know how to contact with PCGS?

I can't call them cause I live in Shanghai and it will cost me a lot to make a phonecall to US.

I sent them few emails but they didn't replay me.

I found one guy from Florida who sells those plastic cases (they look the same like those which PCGS uses) to those who produce fakes in China and they put fake coin into fake PCGS slab.

If someone know with who I can contact and how I can inform PCGS about this.

I have personal information and address of this person from Florida who sells fake slabs to China.

Thanks.

I wonder if the boxes and COA's are genuine? A lot of forgers have been swapping out the genuine coins, and putting the fakes in the boxes.

Thought a consolidated list would be easier to check for fakes sellers, with latest scammers on top of the list:

Thanks for taking your time to compile the list - great work!

I had a recent experience with eBay when I reported this item# 350484836521 (most likely silver plated but seller lists it as "silver panda - 12 troy ounce") Well, eBay came back with this reply:

"I have thoroughly investigated your report and the listing and found
that the listing is not in violation of our Selling Currency policies.
As such, no action has been taken on the item. In this situation, eBay
is not in a position to judge or verify the statements sellers may make
about the metal content in their precious metal items. If a buyer
receives an item that is not 12 ounces of silver, the seller would be in
violation of our policies for misrepresenting their item and would need
to provide the buyer a refund."

In essence, it's saying it's not in violation unless the buyer finds out he's screwed and reports it. Go figure.

Hi, thanks! It would be better if you can attach the link or more evidence when brought up the names.

The link will be useless when the item has been removed. Just be aware of the userid(s) and be cautious.

Just contacted the seller to let him know that his coin is fake and suggest he remove it. We'll see what he does.

I think this seller just confuse Photos on his auctionS.

Fake.

Why? The details.  When you have the real coin in your hand and you make a mold from it, what you then have from the mold is a second generation.  Just look at the Chinese characters, forget the other obvious flaws, even though the picture is blurry (another way to tell something is fishy) is to look at the raised details, especially those with a small open area in the middle like a Chinese character.  My friend is an artist who sculpts in many mediums and on of the cool things he showed me how to do was to make rubber molds, although for metals they use plaster usually, depending on the type of mold.  Which is why they tell you to check the edges, because some mold makers are too lazy to pour the mold in such a way that the combination line would be at a corner seam.  Which is more than likely why China went with the angled serrations.

And no I have never made a mold of a coin, frankly my skills aren't up to metal, I just stick to rubber molds and resin, did make a hell of a kick ass Bowen Black panther bust and some horns for Gaiking who has been without too long.  Yeah used to be a comic book geek too, though they are brutal, a life cycle of a comic can last 6 months, the advent of grading turned your 10.0 comic 2 months old into a $1200 wunderkind.  6 months later you couldn't pay someone to take it.

Anyways sorry to bust up in here, usually one word from Peter is enough, I know I learned a lot from his book, wish I would have had it sooner.

Broke down and bought the plum blossom dragon, but now I want the 5oz Silver Dragon, wise idea, design isn't too much different than the Chinese plum blossom just lower mintage and that has to be the coolest 5 oz of silver I've seen, or I could buy a Kilo Koala or 40oz of Silver...  Any ideas?

Ugh, sorry I'm trying no to think of what I spent back in the day, oh last year when silver was near $50, on Silver Pandas, crazy how which ones seems to fade to the background and a new rarity takes over...

Oh, and sorry Peter if you were expecting the non HK, actually so was I, thought I sold the HK on eBay (which was just a place holder) until I could get the regular version.

Anyways, gotta run.  Think my Koala Opal is here....I'm bad.

Sadly, for him, obviously bad fakes at that, don't think he would snare any here in his web, but sadly may have gotten a newbie or 2.  Thanks for sharing this fraudster.

What about these three ebay sellers (they seem to move a lot of lower priced MCC coin).  I've seen them called out for selling fakes on at least one other site but never here (maybe they let some fakes slip through unknowingly).

Unfortunately eBay took off the option of able to contact the buyer.  Then again, I got slapped on the wrist by eBay on interfering with a sale between a buyer and seller.

So for a guy that doesn't buy a lot of pandas and just looks into this forum once in awhile I see the number one lesson is not to buy a panda from an ebay seller from China.  After that know your coins and what to look for.

Thanks for the heads up with some of these sellers.

I think your conclusion is a little extreme.
There are good and bad sellers of MCC in all countries, singling China out is... over the top?
How about know your product and buy from reputable sources instead.

I didn't mean to be over the top.  As someone new to pandas its hard to know who to buy from and who not to especially with all of the fakes out there.

This I completely agree with.
Our education is often dependent on our circumstances.
My journey through the eBay system has been expensive and at times frustrating.
Investors would be wise to seek out a consultation with an expert such as Clark Smith, Robert Mish, Jay Feldis etc.

How can I tell if coins are real or fake. I have a coin set that is supposed to be a silver and gold set in a finished wood box encased in lexan and wood. The silver coin is stamped Ag .999 silver but the gold coin has a colored face and it doesn't have any stampings like the silver coin has. See coins on ebay. I've been told through ebay that no one has ever seen a set like this. I received it from someone who went to China and brought it back as a gift.

I'll try this agin. I've been trying to attaché pictures of 2 Panda coins to get feedback if they are real or fake. Even if I download one picture it tells me it's to large it says I can down load 3000 kb Hard to believe one picture is tahat large of a file. Guess I'll keep trying , that is if I don't time out for the 3rd time…. Very upsetting.

Tombob,

Welcome to CCF!

Try to upload one picture at a time and see if that'll help.  There is also another limitation we recently discovered: the X-Y dimension of the picture must be lesser than 16 million pixels.  So for a square picture, the pixel dimension can't be greater than 4000 x 4000 pixels.  The picture dimension limit does not apply if you compress the picture and upload as .zip files.  The total size of the upload still need to be 3 megabytes or less.

Here is a graphic guide to picture upload: http://china-mint.info/forum/index.php?topic=7896.msg46156#msg46156

auspiciouscoin - the biggest seller of FAKE Panda coins, this guy is the source of fake Panda coins on eBay!

This guy is crazy to export large quantities of fake Panda coins through eBay every day!  :( >:(

Here is his eBay store, fake panda coin distribution center:

http://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_odkw=&_ssn=auspiciouscoin&_sop=12&_osacat=0&_ipg=200&_from=R40&_trksid=p2046732.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xpanda&_nkw=panda&_sacat=0

MOST on CCF are very experienced and most likely won't fall into the trap, but for those few others ...... please beware of these two sellers below:

http://www.ebay.com/usr/ok-chengyuhao2011?_trksid=p2047675.l2559

http://www.ebay.com/usr/guochunmiao-shop?_trksid=p2047675.l2559

These two individuals appear to be the same person with two different ID's. They post many of the same coins; they have the same M.O. - steal photos from other sellers and pretend to own (and sell) those coins. They also pad their (fake) seller feedback with low-priced items.

Thanks dynamike.

I noticed some incredible photos being put up by the second seller you linked to, so many rare coins that I could tell the auctions would not be legit. I just didn't get around to posting it publicly, so thanks for doing it.

I agree with dynamike

These guys are running a classic ebay scam.

a) sell cheap items to get feedback
b) suddenly list tons of high value coins on a 3-day auction
c) disappear and leave ebay holding the bag (and buyers waiting for ebay to untagle the mess)

Sniff test:  who sells a very rare 1kg gold panda, probably worth 100K, on a 3-day ebay auction?

Don't fall for it .....

Apparently, the top bidder did !! You would think with over 1,000 feedback and numerous bids and buys on Asian coins, he'd know better, right? Shame on eBay for turning a blind eye on all this shenanigan.

Between XuHong and myself, we supplied plenty of evidence to eBay to make sure these guys will no longer be around to victimize unsuspecting buyers on eBay.

I agree with poconopenn. bellevuerarecoins is not a frequent offender, but inadvertently made a mistake in buying a fake coin.

This seller is very clever. The first two pictures in the listings are copied from website of China Gold Coin Inc. However the other pictures in the listings show the fake coins. The fake coin has a resealed pouch and generic capsule and box.

His obvious motivation is GREED. Hope for a quick turnaround and a profit. You have reported a slew of counterfeit sellers lately. Unfortunately, almost all of these counterfeits will make it back to the market and continue to circulate.

These are not fakes.  They are just new varieties that no one uncovered yet.

We know the famous 2000 “dark nose” varieties discovered several years ago. The most appropriate name will be “thick fur” or “micro temple” (for the missing post varieties). Some varieties can use the existed name such as “mirror gap” or “high 2”.

It's a shame that eBay took away the functionality of allowing anyone to be able to contact the buyer directly when the listing is in progress.

Do not want to state that the seller sells any fakes.
But could anyone tell, if coins on ebay from best66666 are genuine or copies, especially those silver pieces from the XXth century?

I will avoid this seller. All silver coins have identical surface porosity. They will produce at the same place.

some listed in China, some listed in USA, some coin is completely wrong, some looks right, but either way, very suspicious, they all like to post backside of the coin for some reason

These two sellers located in US are selling the same packaged fake silver pandas as Chinese sellers mentioned previously.

Seller kelleyv84524(11)

The seller, located in US, mixed 30 fake coins with 18 NGC certified coins. IMO, all pictures of NGC slabbed coins were copied from NGC website. All pictures are identical to the pictures at NGC website, in term of their lighting, contrast, and shadows. Furthermore, all NGC slabbed coins in this listing have a different Invoice # covered several years.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/kelleyv84524/m.html?item=221766469392&hash=item33a24fc710&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562

Based on the pictures, 33 fake and 5 genuine silver pandas sold during the last 15 days.

http://www.ebay.com/csc/PRC-1949Now-/173598/m.html?LH_Complete=1&_ipg=100&_since=15&_sop=13&_ssn=kelleyv84524&_sac=1

Feedback shows two buyers with feedback of 2555 and 2969 left positive feedback. Five silver pandas sold shown pictures of genuine coins.

Seller www.sportsdealers.net

This seller also located in US has one fake silver panda in the listing.

Seller pascalqu(5)

This seller has listed 6 MS 70 silver pandas graded by a Chinese grading company (MSGS) and one NGC MS70 coin with pictures copied from NGC website. Since the slab of Chinese grading company is identical to NGC, the seller claimed the coins were graded by NGC.

The account was inactive for a long time and located in US.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/pascalqu/m.html?item=251954800484&hash=item3aa9ad2764&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562

Here are few examples.  The last example has pictures of NGC graded coin. Please note the lighting, contrast and shadows of the pictures are identical to the pictures at NGC website.

I did report the first three items, since all three have made misleading claim. Let see if eBay will follow it policy and remove  these three items in the next 24 hours.

Yes, I bought one coin to check it myself and you were correct, the edge tells clear that it cannot be genuine coin.

IMO, most transactions may not be real. The purpose of those listings is to establish more positive feedbacks via fake transactions.

For example, the winner (w***6) and second highest (q***l) bidders as well as the first bidder (d***c) for 2000 silver panda MS70 are shill bidders and may work together with the seller.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2000-10Y-China-Silver-Panda-NGC-MS70-/251954797988?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3aa9ad1da4

http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidderProfile&mode=1&item=251954797988&aid=q***1&eu=&bidtid=1654015669015&view=NONE&ssPageName=PageBidderProfileViewBids_None_ViewLink

d***C was involved in bidding of all coins listed by this seller and q***l was also the winner of 2003 MS70 coin.

For 2002 silver panda NGC MS70 (stolen pictures from NGC website) item, the shill bidders d***c, 2***7 and 4***h work together to push the final value to $271. The winner h***I has 0 feedback. IMO, h***I also works together with the seller, since the seller, most likely does not own this coin.

http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=251954799153&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2565

If you check the bidding history of those fake coin seller’s completed listings, you were noticed that every auction was involved shill biddings by at least two bidders.

Note: Apparently, eBay does not allow to post link of bidding history for bidder. Nevertheless, the bidding history for the item (second link above) still can be seen. Click the bidder's name will direct you to the bidding history of the bidder.

1983 fake silver panda is identical to the 1983 fake listed by Stevenshep.2014 mentioned in the previous post.

Seller www.sportsdealers.net, located in US.

Fake 2008 silver panda. IMO, this seller has to know this coin is counterfeit, since the seller also listed NGC MS69 & MS70 2008 silver panda in the current listing.

It is getting ridiculous!!  I scanned 1 page of 50 items for sale in the prc 1949 category on e bay   28 fake items on 1 page !!! And they are selling to unsuspecting future collectors that are the backbone of the future of our passion .When is enough enough ?  we need the industry leaders of our hobby to start speaking out LOUDLY ... NGC, PFGC,  MAJOR DEALERS like MCM .apmex ,guys like Peter Anthony, a petition to ebay SOMETHING!!  IT IS DESTROYING THE THING we love and have invested in. everyone on this board talks about more people buying coins and creating demand and interest in the hobby .This plague is souring 100,s of future collectors !! I hate to say this but I would rather see e bay go to graded coins only than watch what is happening now.

Hi, I'm a new comer to this forum and also to "coin collection" interest.  This forum is so informative and helpful to me.  Thanks all.

Actually, I bought a fake "1914 YSK dollar MS64" in NGC case on eBay a few months ago but was confirmed "fake" afterward by NGC.  Luckily, I took it to NGC for review on time that I can claim a refund.  Hope that I can also contribute a bit to this interest.

I found these two coins from the seller "beeniesea_x" on eBay.

[1] http://www.ebay.com/itm/1916-China-HUNG-HSIEN-One-Dollar-NGC-MS62-/231585681869?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35eb9511cd

[2] http://www.ebay.com/itm/1933-China-Sun-Yat-Sen-One-Dollar-NGC-MS64-/231585680212?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35eb950b54

Having comparing very careful with the photos on NGC site, I suspect that these two are fake, although they are apparently slabbed in a "NGC case".

Would any senior pls help to give any comment.  Thanks.

silvertam2013 you are correct, your links to ebay items both have fake holders and are now reported.  thankfully you can easily compare the slabs and coins against the ngccoin pix and see the differences easily enough.

look very closely at the boundary between the white holder and the clear plastic bottom seam.
you will see little dots on the ngc slab in two places on the obverse and two places on the reverse.
the number will vary from slab to slab but should always be there.  for the obverse above it looks like 3 dots (left of center) and 2 dots (right of center).  none on the fake.

The easiest way to see this fake coin in the fake holder is the location and the shape of the "-" in between y and 329 in the label. However, this is not necessary true in all fake holders. Sometimes, the distance between the lines may be not the same or the font may be slightly different from the genuine holder.

Another subtle difference is that the difference of relief is not so visible on genuine NGC holders.

Thank you madronya, poconopenn & Tao-Panda.
I think NGC's photo is of such poor quality that most of these are hard to see making the photos almost useless for fake detection.

What do you think about this seller (annelise7088) ?

http://www.ebay.com/sch/annelise7088/m.html

In my opinion, even if the coins themselves look genuine, all the Brown label NGC holder currently in auctions are fake (no NGC hologram on the brown label).

I looked at half dozen of the NGC coins listed and compare to NGC file photos.  They match very closely.  Is there a particular coin that you have a problem with?

Yes, I did the same and could not find any problem. The reverse of 1994 1 oz. silver panda has few small dark spots and those spots also show in the picture of NGC website.

Maybe a wrong alert... when I posted my message, I had the message "no picture available" on NGC website. So, I was not able to compare coins with NGC pictures.
In fact, yes, coins are very similar but my main concern is the fact there is no visible NGC holograms on the brown part of the label.
Perhaps the way the seller takes his pics makes holograms invisible but... I would prefer to see them.

The holograms are dependent on the direction of lighting.  I took two pictures of the same coin but rotate the slab 180 degree.  You can see one has the holograms clearly, but barely there for the other.

Hi all,
Long time no see.  I just found another coin offering on eBay that is very suspicious.  Hope that it can be removed by eBay on time (if I'm right) cos it's bidding on $5,000 now!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/151780418073

I compared the photos with NGC site.  I hardly identify any difference between two with marks on the coins (cos it's too good MS63 with gold shinning well; most important, I'm just a new comer in this field).  But I found the position of the coin (reverse side) on eBay is fairly different from the NGC one.  Pls see the chinese characters "華" and "民"

Experts, pls check whether I made a mistake.

Thanks.

Yes, it is a fake coin in a fake holder. Reported.

I have adjusted the contrast of the pictures in the listing for a better view.

The listed coin has about 5 degree rotation vs. NGC website. NGC website also shows a defected prong (left top of reverse), but not in the listed holder.

Hi,
Would experts pls give comment on this raw coin offering on eBay.  It's 1997 Panda silver 12oz, really rare.  It seems right, but I don't know why I have some strange feeling about it having compared it with the NGC's photos.  The first 2 photos are from eBay and the last 2 are from NGC.  Pls help that I can learn something.  Many thanks.

Nice catch. +1

IMO, this is a questionable coin. I do not believe that the difference is caused by optical illusion.

(if so) This is a very well made counterfeit. It's hard to tell from the details alone.

Here are more detailed pictures to show the differences in position of Chinese characters vs. temple as well as the size of Chinese characters.

The seller responded to my message, indicating he would take care the listing on 10/4, since his store closed during the weekend. Unfortunately, he did not do anything, so reported. Please note that fake NGC holder has longer prongs.

So he has no intention of taking care of the fake issue.  Reported.

Strategically wrong seller move because other items in inventory could now be suspect even if they may turn out real on further investigation.

If this seller call NGC, the answer from NGC will be yes, it is a fake coin in a fake NGC holder.

Reported.

Pictures of this fake coin in fake holder are attached for future reference. A comparison picture of genuine (left) and fake is also attached. Please note the difference position of 1/4 oz. Au and the decoration between the inner ring and outside rim. This eBay listing appears to have an improved version of fake, the surface is smoother than the previous fake. The comparison picture was copied from Gilmore posted in this thread.

Here are my animated GIF overlays.
The fake label is quite good.  It lines up very well with the real label, except the NGC trademark is slightly lower than the real one.
The fake coin has very different leaf pattern around the rim.  Note the position of leaf under the "Au" letter.  That's my diagnostic for the fake NY Expo.

Sigh...This is so pathetic.  I suspect few of the people who bought the 511 pieces of this 2015 one ounce silver panda 10 yuan from this seller really thought they were getting one ounce of silver for $2.71, but I wonder how many of those coins will subsequently be offered to suckers as genuine?  It is like an unseemly business exploiting people is going on in the public park on a well traveled portion of Main Street of your town, but even if you call the cops nothing changes.

I thought it was illegal for Chinese to make fakes of coins with the yuan denomination on them, and that is why many fakes matched all the design details, but omitted the official denomination?  These are coming from China, so how are these guys getting away with it, so blatantly out in the open?  I wonder how many people along the way are being paid off to look the other way (count eBay in that too)?
