Yuan 1914 Shi Kai, is it original?
« on: September 25, 2012, 01:46:35 PM »

I was wondering if it is original silver dollar or fake. I do not buy from sellers with less then 200 feedback, so no buy for me, but the price achieved is quite affordable. Does the price declined so much for this dollar or it is just a questionable coin/seller?
Thanks

The coin is genuine, identical to NGC website. The seller may not be reliable. NGC should not grade this coin as UNC detail. The coin was polished badly.

Yeah, the surfaces of this coin are sad. The price may seem a little low, and actually it could have fetched a bit higher with a fancier seller account, but this coin is very illiquid. This kind of commemorative coins are "MS by default", a very nice UNC details hairlines (like, with rainbow toning...) or AU58 may be OK, but anything less is only gonna be bought by cash strapped aspiring collector. Not really a market you want to be in if you are investing. So, not worth the risk dealing with a low feedback seller.
