Champion Results
« on: April 04, 2012, 08:33:04 AM »
I think all the bidders were either in Singapore or at Stack's.  Actually, the same coins at Stack's did better.  Also, opening ask prices seemed to high in some cases.  This happened last time.  Many lots were passed on.  It looks like the I&D kilo set did not even draw one bid at $230K.  Maybe to many events happening at one time.  Dealers and collectors can only be in so many places.

Interestingly, I am getting the sense that the very high end of the market(the place only a handful of collectors and investors can afford...the ferrari's of MCC) is slowing down, but the lower and middle market coins have definitely picked. There is much more activity.  Could be some sort of rotation.  Or new collectors are appearing on the scene, hungry for entry level coins.  For instance, the 2012 silver panda's keep selling and prices are ticking up.

CCF picked up almost 80 new members in one month!! That's alot of mouths to feed.

Hello!

The auction results of the Hong Kong Champion Auction are online!! As I have seen there are a lot of unsold lots. I am very surprised about this! Especially the 20 Oz Unicorns Silver and some 5 Oz and 12 Oz Lunars were unsold.

Has anybody visited the auction? Do you know why?

Many thanks for your help in advance!

Dachs

This is where the MCC starts from 1979 or so depending on who you ask.

If this auction is true then this Gold Historical Set has been stolen or has the estimates been overly too confident?

I forget who said this before but I look at what has NOT been offered at the latest auctions. I bought some lots but notice that many rarer coins have not been offered. My belief is that the rarer CMC (low mintage #'s) will prove to be the strong prices in the future. Most buyers of these coins hold on to them for long periods of time and when few show up they will fetch strong premiums to other CMC's. Most who own these coins have no need to sell them and will only do so when the prices rise substantially.
