The CC has been acting a little strange for me too. I think it might be because I just made some massive changes to the site. They're not visible yet because they're behind the scenes, but they will allow very easy searching and filtering of enormous quantities of data. Just imagine when a type has 40,000 specimens and 200,000 sightings for all those specimens. We're going to need an easy way to find all that data!

I just took a look at CCT245, with the armor varieties. I think the images are too packed together with the table, so maybe the other way would be better. When I resize my browser to a small size (like for people who have small screens), it moves the images all the way to the bottom of the screen. I'll try changing it for you, to see how it works on small screens. I'll do the same thing for the Kublai Khan varieties.

Good job with the annotations by the way. This is a very neat find. With the two armor images side by side, it's very clear that the coins are quite distinctive from each other.

Thanks,

Based on the experience with Historical Figures, I thought it may be interesting to study a group of coins with known pedigree and annotate them with the pedigree.  Such as a sheet of 10x year2000 frosted Panda, a dozen 1989 Kublai Khan acquired in one lot in year 2000, a dozen of 1992 Cai Wenji also purchased in year 2000.  I happen to have all these lots I mentioned.  CCF is not a good place for them, they just clutter up the forum and become lost a few months later.  With the search ability and large database infrastructure, CC is a much better place for this kind of data.  What would be even better is a way to load large number of high-res images to a holding area, then use "edit with form" feature to put each image where it belongs.

I guess this my round-about way of asking whether CC has a multi-file load capability?

I can look into adding it. You are clearly an advanced user, so I won't make you wait. I'll start working on it right now. I think it should only take a few minutes.

It's going to take longer than I thought. I could do the quick and dirty method, but the rest of the site is working so well, I decided against it, in case it screws something up. So, I'm going to try making a custom solution. It might take me a bit longer, and I'm not sure if it will work. We'll see, I'm on it right now.

I actually tried something crazy like opening up multiple CC windows and starting to download files one after another.  I think I broke something on my side.  Had to start it all over again.   crying

Oh, no hurry.  I don't even have the hi-res photos right now.  It will take me a few days before ready to upload them.

Now you tell me! Haha. I guess I'll have some time to test this bulk upload form and see what it does. The problem with it is you will have to manually edit the image page and put this on it before you will see an "Edit with form" tab:

{{Image}}

After you save the page with that bit there, you should have an edit with form tab. I'll test it now to see if it works like I think it will.

OK, I tested it, and it works, but since you have to do manual stuff to it after you upload, I'm not sure it's really faster. Maybe while you wait for an upload you can go find the files you've already uploaded and enter in the info you want. I will have to research more to eliminate the slow manual work. It may not be possible to do soon. I will let you know.

By the way, to find the files you just uploaded, it will be easiest to click "My contributions" in the upper right corner of the screen. It will show you everything you have done recently, and will list all the files you uploaded.

This is strange:
Look in CCT25 in the Subtypes block.  You'll see this heading:

Subtypes

Add a new subtype of this type
Total: 28 at this level and lower

A total of 28 subtypes?

Whoops. It was counting all the specimens and sightings of that type too. I narrowed it down to only the types. It says 3 now.

By the way, I have finished adding the fancy list-making features, as you have noticed. It appears to be working well. I might expand the features to other parts of the site too, so let me know if you have ideas for you might like to see lists.

One more detail, the site is slowly going through the data to connect it all up and make the lists. If you don't see something counted in the list that should be there, try visiting the page that is missing from the list. The CC will detect that the page is missing from a list it is supposed to be on, and it will be added.

That is only a problem for currently existing stuff. Newly added stuff should not have that problem, since all the technical work will be done immediately when new things are added. I particularly like the total count numbers. It gives you an idea of how much stuff there is that you can't see yet on the page you're viewing.

Very cool - there are now over 400 coin types on the CC.
