Yes, the other side appear to be the same.

KonaJim,

I believe Version 2 has word "HEROS".  Can you verify if Version 1 has "HEROS" or "HEROES"?

From the Hong Kong Auction.

CHINA 1984 The Great Wall of China Large Silver Medal Proof, error type(lack of E in HEROES), the first medal in Great Wall Series, 60mm, 103g, made by Shanghai Mint. It is the fist silver medal of large size in China, also the first error medal. This medal has two varieties, proof and matte proof, the proof is much rarer than the matter proof. UNC, with original box. A similar medal sold in Shanghai Orient International Company 2011 auction for RMB 94,600 (US $14,700), This specimen is the finest one we have seen, gem proof with original sealed and original box. Very Rare

is not $14,700 still a low number for such rarity?? IS it part of the Chinese still not appreciating medals?

This great wall metal has many versions, going as early at leaet as 1980, because I have a brass vesion that has 1980 on the metal. I am very suspiciou of mintage numbers quoted here. These are early tourist/forieng guest metals and should have no mintage records left. China's mint usually did keep records in those days.

There are still quiet some silver ones in China. I have seen post a few month ago that brags about getting it less the $500 on taobao and selling it for $1200.

I have some pictures of my brass version metal but I don't know how to upload them here.

Just did some search on Baidu in Chiese and see some posts on the great wall metal:

this is a recent, 2011-01-04, sale on Zhouonline.com a very well known China aution site, 90 RMB for the 1987 bronze version:
http://www.zhaoonline.com/detail/auction-847127-detail.shtml

This is on sale post for a 1985 brass version, for 5800 RMB posted on 2011-8-29:
http://shop.jibi.net/dispbbs.asp?BoardID=25&ID=49927
It was sold.

This is another version of brass, open for bid right now currently at 2,360 RMB and still going:

The one I have is very close to the last one but has a 1980 mark on the metal. I have not been able to find any reference 1980 version on the web so far.

Here is a link that shows silver version metal:
http://www.quancang.com/dispbbs.asp?BoardID=235&ID=34758

Here is another post that talks about the silver version being bought for 4000 RMB and 7000 RMB and of mintage 68 and current market price over 10,000 RMB.

Notice the "HEROS" on the first medal and "HEROES" on the second medal.

Both versions do not match the one put out by the china mint. "1984"

"square with lettering inside"....

Mind pointing out in a picture?  I don't see the difference.  Thanks.
