World's largest gold bullion coin

Not a Chinese coin but worth looking.

Perth Mint makes 1 Tonne Gold Kangaroo Coin.
Watch it being made on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1KoF8Ik24Y

How many % over spot are you willing to pay for it?  :001_smile:

Amazing, they just topped Canada's 2007 100 kg gold maple leaf by a huge margin. I wonder how many melted pandas are in that coin?

First, Its cast, not struck.  So I'm not interested in buying at spot.  Far less pretty than the mirror field of the Maple.

Also, is that a dent visible at 9 o'clock? Maybe the helper dropped it...  That should be worth at least a little off... ;)

The 100 kg maple was cast too. To strike an unusually large coin like that would require a lot of custom equipment. And, if you're only going to make one, making it by hand is a lot more sensible.

What gets my attention is all the workers wearing rubber gloves when they touch the coin, and then the guy at the end touching it with his bare hands. I wonder if NGC would grade that coin? :) I'm sure they would have to make a custom holder by hand too.

Yeah, I know the maple was cast too, but it was polished nicely....

Heck, if I'm gonna shell out anything close to spot, it better be a finished looking manhole cover!
