Canada 2012 Silver Flower Dragon!
« on: September 18, 2011, 10:59:20 AM »
Royal Canadian Mint came up with its own 2012 silver flower dragon with a 48,888 mintage. I think the design is attractive and this coin is overlooked and undervalued compared to the much hyped Australia dragon. You can pre-order it from http://www.talismancoins.com for around $100 each [cheaper than getting it from the Canadian Mint directly!!]. Disclaimer: I have no connection to that company except that I ordered from them.

I am looking forward to seeing the Chinese dragon coin.  Seems like they would release them before Christmas for better sales.

Nice enough dragon design.

But the image of the Queen ruins it for me.  Unless she led the country into battle on horseback or something.
That being said, I do collect silver Marilyns.  But thats different, eh?  :001_cool:

I agree. I don't like the queen there either. I am just comparing the relative value to the Perth mint dragon selling raw for $150++ with a mintage of 300,000!!!!! The perth mint dragon has the queen there too  :scared:

Agreed.  Nice Dragon design but the "ol'Hag" must go!

Commonwealth coins would be sooooo much nicer if they did not have to waste half of each coin.  I did buy this coin though, and I do buy some australian coins.  There are times when the designs have enough merit on one side to make up for having a picture of someone's grandma on the back.  The dragons from Canada and Australia do qualify.

Yeah, the ol'Hag that made their money via drugs (opium wars) and slave trade but the dragon side looks nice.  I'd rather wait for the Chinese Dragons to come along, cheers.

All Canada coins are a very long queen series with changing obverse...off course there are varieties. :-)

Got mine in the mail today.  I do like the coin very much.  My complaint would be that the relief on the coin is too low.  When I put it next to my chinese and perth dragons the difference is drastic.  It is nonetheless an excellent coin.  I love dragon season!  Got the canadian and australian dragons.  Next stop china!  China dragons!!!!!  Just wish there was a way to avoid the ungodly percentages we will have to pay the middle men on these!

It is nice how large the dragon is,but his arm is pretty lame.  Where are the claws?  Here it is next to a 2000 scallop, which has a very large dragon design itself.
