One or Two 5 oz silver round lunar coin series
« on: October 31, 2009, 06:53:36 PM »
On a site we all use to learn about mintages and series of Chinese coins, one reads that there are 2 5 oz round lunar silver coin series:

5oz Round Shaped Silver Lunar-Zodiac Series I (1987-1998)
5oz Round Shaped Silver Lunar-Zodiac Series II (1999-present)

However, is this really the case?  I am aware of the first round silver lunar series and of the 5 oz rectangle lunar series that began in 2000.  But I am not aware of another 5 oz ROUND series that began in 1999.  There is, of course, the 5 oz round silver rabbit coin in 1999, but I am not aware of any later 5 oz round silver lunar coins.

Does someone have more information about this issue?

Thanks,
Pecus

You are right.   :blushing:
The 2nd round of 5oz silver lunar series was changed from Round-Shaped to Rectangle-Shaped starting year 2000.

Oops.. then there are 2 Roosters, (1987 and 1999) in series I?!   :confused1:

Are the new 2010 tiger coins the beginning of a new lunar series, or a stand-alone series of tiger coins, with no link to any lunar series?  The 2009 colored Ox coin finished the lunar series that began with the 1998 Tiger.
So where would a new colored Tiger coin fit?

Thanks,
