Unidentified Yuan Shih-Kai silver coin.
« on: April 16, 2011, 07:27:06 PM »
Hello folks-
Name's Claude, I hang out on the Panda forum here.
I picked up this YSK recently, but can't ID the variety.
Something about the characters on the reverse.
I can't find images for the coin with that character on it.
With the lower character, most all have the same as mine.
I tried to upload images on KONDI's thread, but no luck.
Thought I'd try to put them up on here.
Thanks to all for their help in advance.

Dear Claude,

Unfortunately, your Yuan Shih Kai 1914 coin is a fake coin.
On the reverse you can notice 2 chinese characters: "wu yuan" (five dollars).
On that time they didn't even issue 5 dollars coins,
only 1 dollar coins "yi yuan" (one dollar).

Thank you KONDI.
I knew that top character was odd.
Maybe you could take a look at the other two I posted in "what's it worth" category.
Thanks again to all.
Especially KONDI.

" Claus World Records " rare coinsIn two years five yuan. Weight 32.25G, diameter 45.1MM, brass coins model. Boundary word L.GIORGI - L.GIORGI, Rulge George Mint produced a pattern coin.Such coins manufacturing. But the opposition, so there is no circulation. The old Chinese people only silver weight. Denying the value. But wyldkatt friends in the Republic of China 3 years yuan larger end says the 5 round coin is false. True 5 round coin very scarce.

Dear hzy023,

5 dollars Yuan Shih Kai does not exist!!! It is fake coin. I don't know from where did you get such of surprising description, but it is ridiculous. The biggest value on that time was "yi yuan" which is 1 dollar.
