1998 1/4 oz gold colored tiger pattern
« on: November 07, 2010, 04:59:02 AM »
(Note by qwasty: This topic was split from this topic, brass pandas, which contains the page referred to below that started this important discussion.)

Further up the page with the brass Pandas is a post that, if I read it correctly, says that there exists a 1998 Year of the Tiger 1/4 oz. colorized gold coin. It was some kind of test piece with a mintage of 10. Is that right? None of my catalogs include this coin which is obviously a major rarity. Does anyone have a link to the auction where it sold?

Best wishes,
Peter Anthony

That would be cheap considering its rarity. Same mintage as the 1991 10,000 Yuan gold which has about $700,000 in numismatic premium in its last auction price.

Here is a photo for the Peter 1998 1/4oz colored gold tiger. It's a highly arguable coin in China that has not been officially considered as a sample or testing coin.  Long story behind it.
