2 things come to mind. . .

1) medal v coin debate
2) it is a 68, will it be prized enough in the future to appreciate?

Thanks for this thread. Could be fun!

This is a lovely and original design by Chang Huan, a famous coin designer and the leader of the art department at the Shenyang Mint. There was a special offer for this same silver Hong Kong Coin Show Panda to China Pricepedia subscribers a couple of months ago. I will run it again in China Pricepedia in September.

There is also an interesting story about one of the 25 samples of this issue that was accidentally distributed to the public. It is surely worth quite a bit more than the regular issues — at least one did trade hands privately at a much higher price (I was not involved). More about this, too, in the September issue.

Best wishes,

There are much more sold than just one piece of the 25 Specimen medals. I think nearly all.

The currently price for a regular medal is 298$ and the rar specimen dont found a buyer under 300$... the auction was passed.
I have it on my watchlist, but dont want it, because 300$ is still a high price for a 25 mintage medal at the current times.
It could be pherhaps very interesting in the future, but not now.

One specimen was sold at a show price of around $100 USD to a public buyer at the event. That is what I was referring to. The entire lot of 25 specimens was delivered to the show sponsors. The other 24 were surely correctly identified as specimens by them. As an aside, I am certain that not all were for sale and the surviving population (!) of specimens is less than 25.

CCL what roughly are prices for a 1985 PF 69 Hong Kong Expo Silver Panda 5 oz   and   1986 PF 69 Hong Kong Expo Silver Panda 12 oz?     Those are first yr for 5 oz and 12 oz.      (There is a 1984 PF 69 HK Expo Silver Panda 1 oz on ebay for about $2,200)

1986 PF 69 HK Expo 12 oz silver panda...

Since nobody has mentioned it, there is an ungraded one closing on Zhaoonline in less than an hour. That should give you a clue. Current bid is $490 USD.

If you have someone in China to receive it you could bid. A little risky because it seems to have some haze, but if NCS can clean that up it looks 68-69. Pretty nice for that issue.
