In March, an NGC MS69 half sold for $2530 in China, which is how I determined a realistic price. It could be that the coin would fetch a bit more here in the USA, but the OP said his/her was an OMP coin.

I am using prices from the USA where we unfortunately do not have direct access to the Chinese internal market. Sellers here know when they have uncommon coins and hold out for more. The OMP price tends to mirror that of the ms69 price the latter of which is currently $3500+ on eBay. An OMP was sold on eBay in 2017 for approximately $3000. I am not advocating for high prices but if I were to sell a 2003 1/2oz OMP of presumed high quality I probably won’t sell for less than $3000, but this is just an opinion based on what I see.

When I purchase an older gold panda in OMP, I want to hold it in my hand and carefully look at it.  If this is not possible, I want to price it as though it is a 67 or lower.  At this stage of the cycle, many of the older gold pandas which remain in original mint packaging are impaired.  Just attend a major coin show and look at the dealers' inventory of gold pandas in OMP.  Problems abound.

If I know the seller well and if the seller clearly represents to me that the coin in OMP is problem-free, my buying price changes.

Mistakes at the time of purchase are hard to remedy and normally result in a loss of money upon resale.

Not long ago, coin forum members discussed whether OMP coins were as valuable as third-party graded coins and discussed whether we could actually determine whether the coins were in OMP or whether they had been resealed.  We saw that Chinese dealers were able to pay a fee and have coins resealed by Chinese Mints.

A lot has changed since 2017, and eBay is the most optimistic of all markets. If Arif is selling 2003 1/2 NGC MS69 for $3200, then I assume his buy price is well below that mark.

I might be a buyer of 2003 1/2 OMP around $2500, but I dont know if that would be a good buy or a sucker's buy. Either way, I haven't seen one offered at that price, so it is a non-starter.

The OMP price tends to mirror that of the ms69 price...

This may be true of asking prices, but not of auction results. I also don't think it would be a very good value as many earlier OMP coins would grade less than MS69. For the most recent years almost everything grades 69 or 70.

Best wishes,

A 2003 NGC MS69 1/2 recently sold at Great Collections (Sunday) and fetched less than $2600 incl. buyer's premium, I believe.
