Lunar Ox 2009 Colored Prices down?
« on: July 22, 2017, 07:16:42 AM »
Hi,

ive see that the colored 2009 1 Oz Ox only coast now 145$ and PFUC69 220$.
The Price last year was for a PFUC68 900$.

There was a post that this coin would be very seldom with just only 1000 pieces.
Was there a big hort? Now the 2010 Tiger have higher Prices...

Ive see someone sells some PFUC69 for 227$. Will this be good or just a falling knife?

The 2009 Lunar coin's have really come down in price. Many Lunar coins were hoarded in China which made them unattractive to long term collectors. I think it is healthy to see the original hoarders finally throwing in the towel. This should eventually encourage more collectors to get into the series. The 2009 color Oxen are now selling at around the same price as coins from 2010 and some previous years, which is good. Percentage-wise they could fall more, but most of the speculation has been squeezed out. What is the greatest downside that I can see? The 2003 color Goat still sells for half the price with the same mintage, but with Lunars some years will always be more popular and expensive than others.

FWIW, I am pegging a PF69 2009 color Ox at $190 on NGC and in the July China Pricepedia.

Best wishes,
Peter Anthony

Ouch, that hurts. That's the game we play with MCC from post-2000. Manipulation leading to artificial price spikes and precipitous drops.

The good news is there are early year coins/medals that are relevant and undervalued so now is a good time to collect them....
