1920 Chinese silver dollar (fat man) fake??
« on: May 28, 2016, 04:08:49 AM »
Hey all, thanks for taking the time to read this post.
I'm a beginner silver collector with a question, which I can't find much information about.
I've recently been given the oppurtunity to purchase a "1920 fat man silver dollar" at a very reasonable price.
However I am not able to do a magnet test to see it's silver value nor am I knowledgable about the fat mans history to work out if it's fake.
Here are some photos. I hope it helps.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to CCF.
This is a fake fantasy coin. Silver 5$ is not exist with bust of YSK. These are base metal coins in most cases.

It is certainly a replica but if you would like to check for its bullion salvage value, one can test its specific gravity for approximate silver values: http://china-mint.info/forum/index.php?topic=11456.0

It should be easier to do with your digital scale for tare weight adjustment.
