A  belated welcome to the forum.

Fake 1983/84 one Yuan brass panda was known to be made with high purity copper, not brass which has high content of zinc and resist to corrosion. The picture of your coin shows the typical known design associated to the fake (picture attached). Your picture also shown that the coin was dipped to remove corroded surface and then further cleaned with olive oil, a standard procedure to conserve the damaged copper coin.

Thank you for the info. This forum is truly a wonderful pool of knowledge and experience. I conclude then that my 1983 panda is not genuine, and will make sure it is clearly marked as such in my collection. I have been collecting MCC for a few years, but mainly silver panda and silver lunar coins.
