Damaged 5 Yuan Coin
« on: April 05, 2016, 07:25:21 PM »
I'm curious how much this will affect the value of this coin.  The obverse of the coin looks very nice, its the reverse that looks like it has been hit with sandpaper.  It also has two large hits one at high noon and one at about one o'clock.  It's sad that this has happened to this coin, this little bear didn't deserve the abuse.

Do you know if it was used as a pendant for a necklace?

At first I thought that, but looking at the coin I don;t see damage on the edges and the obverse looks great and the damage on the reverse looks not like the typical jewelry type damage.  Maybe its wasn't in a pendant long and the jeweler worked on the back to get it into the pendant, not sure.  I'm also not sure if their is any benefit to sending it to NGC to have it placed into their details holder?

I don;t have Peter's book with me right now but what's thoughts on if this is a small date?  Where this is a poor mans example of a key date coin is it a good one to hold on to long term or not.
