Anyone Have Experience Shipping to Hong Kong?
« on: April 04, 2016, 07:35:42 PM »
I recently sent off a package to a CCF member in Hong Kong but USPS returned it to me as "Undeliverable as Addressed."

I will soon post a picture of the shipping label here for you to review. If you see any reason why this package was returned to me, please enlighten me.

Thanks in advance!

I am glad that it was at least returned to you! Shipping to HK is MUCH safer than shipping to China. Of course, best advice is to check with the buyer who supplied you with the address. Be happy it was HK, and you got it back!

The package never even left Los Angeles, so there must have been something wrong with the address on the package. I will confirm with the member what his complete address is and then verify it against what I wrote. Very frustrating for both myself and the buyer, although we're both glad the packages at least returned to me.

Was it Express or Priority Mail?

Your best bet is to use click-n-ship for this type of thing. This helps you format the address. Hopefully you didn't write the address by hand and good that it went back to you!

You probably saw my posting elsewhere about a largely similar experience. Mine returned after six months with the same undeliverable message. I was happy to get the document back.

The address format to China is complex. I don't know if it is similar to that of Hong Kong but different people could write the same address in various ways using a combination of lower case and upper case letters!

I subsequently sent another item to China using FedEx and it got there safely. There were customs problems but the FedEx modus operandi meant that they took full responsibility for the package until the addressee got it. It was expensive but worth it IMO.

I still intend to post pics, however, I have figured out the reason the package was returned to sender. Anything exported to HK that is valued at over $2.5k requires an EEI document (Electronic Export Information) to be filed with the US Census Bureau website. I did not perform this, so when I insured the package for $3.5k and sent it away, they turned it right back around to me and attached a document to the package explaining why.

you can insure express flat rate without that   its about $50 plus insurance ,registered is very safe to hk but you can only insure for up to $400 ... please read the fine print as even though you insure for lets say 2k they will only pay a portion of it
