Sharing Stories Thread. Super Rare Coins/Massive Collections
« on: October 14, 2015, 01:56:46 AM »
This is a place to share stories of people you know directly or indirectly (or possibly even verryy indirectly as in the realm of more of a rumor) that either has a very rare coin(s) or a massive collection.

These can be private collectors or non-collectors.

It can be Chinese coinage, US coinage, Canadian currency, etc., etc.

PS:
I await to hear somebody say they know a guy who knows a guy with a 1933 $20 Double Eagle.

Discussing/revealing somebody else's holdings is generally frown upon as a security risk.
Maybe it's just me?

Huh?
I thought it went without saying that this is STORY time not "Lets prepare to rob somebody planning" time.

Do not give out names or address. I can say as an example "I have a friend who owns a complete set of Canadian Dollars in MS63+"
See?
I did not follow that up with: His name is John Q Smith and he lives at 478 Mulberry Lane Washington, USA. He keeps them in a 5lb safe under the bed and he is out of town most weekends".

Complete, as in all varieties (e.g., 2000 mirror, 1998 LD & SD, 1995 LD & SD, etc. ?), not just all dates (which is also a big accomplishment I haven't achieved) .  If so, very nice!

Most of them are specimen coins or very rare coins. John C Lee collection Pedigreed as J C Lee. Some very good 马兰 brass token are sold in Champion auction from this collection. Liu Collection from the 刘峙 family, it has many rarest coins such as 福建白铜七钱二分. Also, Dr. 曾泽禄(Tseng, Che Lu) in CA and Dr. Chen(陈医生). Both are great collectors and owned huge huge brilliant piece coins!

As we have gained many new members since this happened, here again is an informative link to my "Best Presented" winning registry set from 2011. If you click view coin, you can scroll through each one. I set this up as an informative slide-show. It could be helpful for new collectors and fun for seasoned ones. Note that the data points and information may be dated as this information was current as of December 2011.
