There is increasing interest in the actual artists, designers and engravers behind the coins and medals we showcase and discuss in this forum. I suggest we post information in this thread that will increase our knowledge of these creative individuals. It is a fact file of some sort written in any style you want. It's not just their names, but any information in the public domain about them. Titbits. History. Their musings and thoughts. Photos. Their portfolio. Mints they have worked at. Etc, etc, etc! Lets update and upgrade the information regularly. Thanks for your support.

I have accurate information?   Nope.   That is why i post because i want to learn.   Cannot speak or read Chinese so am somewhat helpless.    However I can eat Chinese food and lots of it.   Korean/Chinese/Asian food is the best in the World.   That is why i strongly dislike chopsticks and love a shovel!    Where there is a will there is a way, so you members that know the facts can work together.   Maybe Barsenault and his video experience can help w/ photos?   It would be great to see the names of the famous artists and their MCC.   Back in the 1970's & 80's it must have been just a good job to design MCC but soon these artists will be Rock Stars.........

Just received a PM today indicating that while many earlier coins may have been designed and engraved by the same person the situation has changed in recent years; it seems that more than one individual may be involved in the process now. As we comb through information we'll have to take that into consideration. The aim currently is to identify individuals involved in crafting these coins and medals. It is also possible that some of the established designers may have more junior staff working on the same project under their guidance to varying extents during the design and engraving of coins and medals.

Please send me your thoughts and other information or post them here. Furthermore, please call my attention to any errors or items that need further clarification. Right now I am just listing most of the information I come across but will gradually clean it up with time especially with feedback.

The problem with listing here is that you cannot edit what you have posted after a few minutes. For example Year of the Child is not a medal series, but then you cannot edit it; or add to the listing under Chen Jian. He designed many more coins and medals.

My plan is to update the file I have on my computer with all corrections and additions every week or two, depending on the volume and post again. A bit clumsy but that is the only way I know for now. Maybe re-upload every month until it becomes more stable. Unless there is a database in CCF that can be updated without creating many copies. Will keep on exploring options.

The book attached below gives name of all designers and engravers for MCC minted between 1979-1990. Please note that in many instants, the obverse and reverse may have different designer and engraver.

The book is in Chinese.

Thanks for the information. Obviously we cannot download the contents due to copyright laws. However, someone who has such a book can fact check any entries we make here from time to time as well as contribute critical information.

There are probably hundreds of designers and engravers, and thousands of coins and medals, that cannot all be highlighted here. I am hoping we can identify designers of coins/medals we commonly come in contact with in the forums and in the marketplace.

Chen Jian is reputed to have designed and/or sculptured more than 300 coins and medals. Any examples I list here are just that, examples! I hope someone has catalogued and photographed all those coins and medals, including draft drawings, models and rejected versions, etc. Will be a treasure trove of MCC numismatic information!
