1998 to 2009   I am looking for tiger ,dog and rooster  colorized on the older set, NGC is running another grading fair in Shanghai @ the end of august  a lot of dealers submit large quantities of coins during these NGC grading "parties" so I am hoping for some to pop up(I have our friend keeping his eyes out for me) that's where the last flush of older lunars came out of NGC's last on site grading fair, keep you eyes open for me G they are around but I don't want to pay high retail:)        my 2010 to present is complete but not all 70

Good Luck J
I have checked NGC census and some of the years do not have any pf70's
I hope you find what you're looking for.

I collect some of the gold and silver fan-shaped and blossom-shaped coins.  Some of my coins have been graded as PF and some as MS.  As an example, I like the 2004 Year of Monkey fan-shaped coins.  I have one which is graded PF70UC and two which are graded MS70.  I have one which is graded MS69 and four which are graded PF69UC.  I do not care whether NGC grades the coins as mint state or proof.  I am not building sets.  I am buying my favorite designs.  If you are building sets, this may make a big difference to you.  Comments?

you are right Mark ,There is lots of confusion around these lunars ,there are actually registry categories that are ms/pf on the fans,I have actually submitted fans that came back ms and the coa's clearly said proof on them ,I honestly think NGC is mistaken ,my understanding is the mint made these later fans as Proof only ,Maybe Peter Anthony can give us some clarification??

Normally, I include a copy of COAs with my submissions to NGC.  Then, they look at each coin, review the COA and make their determination.  Sometimes, I am puzzled by the designation.  Normally, I am not.  I am so happy to have the coin authenticated, graded and encapsulated that I do not care if it is a mint state or proof designation.

Over the years, as I have built my collection, I have unknowingly purchased counterfeit coins and problem coins.  As soon as possible, I want to know about my mistakes.  Then, with luck, I can return counterfeit coins and I can decide whether to keep the problem coins.  If I cannot return counterfeit coins, I destroy them (to make certain no one else is "stuck" with them).

I do own all of the fan-shaped silver coins from 2000-2012.  And I do own multiples of some of these coins.  Again, some are graded as mint state and some are graded as proof (with the same design)(dragon, snake and horse).  Several years ago, this bothered me and I considered returning them to get consistency in my labels.  Then, I decided to forget about this issue and enjoy my coins.

Very nice set !! I love the Chinese lunar coins, I am working on a 70 set as well starting with 2009 I hope they keep the design consistant throughout the 12 years. The one I am finding impossible to find in an NGC 70 is the 2009 Ox 10 y round , I would be interested if anyone that reads this forum has one.

One ounce is approx 32 grams.  What is the weight of the authentic coin?
I don't speak German but I think it means he destroys the fakes he finds.
It is interesting how the Yuan symbol after the 10 is different in each coin.
Anyone have any details about that ?

I dont know about this particular coin but the weight should be around 36-37 gm with capsule, if the scale is true then the coin is way off, looks like they cut it with a bandsaw or something, maybe plated base metal? I am wondering when it was made or when wg aquired it , the only fake lunar chinese coin from this series I have seen is the snake round which i posted here a while back, these seem to be high quality counterfeits which is scary and including the Yuan value on them makes for a full out counterfeit..

who post pictures like that ??? Thanks  WG your awsome...
