1994 ? Door God colored medals
« on: April 03, 2014, 08:28:14 AM »
A pair of colored Door Gods.   Graded by a CCF member and he said the COA was from Shenzhen Mint.  Sometimes private mint slips thru the cracks or could it be real MCC?  Have no clue to mintage or other information about them.  Some dealers in China say it is ICBC and others say it is a highly prized MCC so I don't know.  Since colored MCC are getting attention, may as well post these.   In hand these are real beautys as the photos do no show the deep colors and the frosted background that give these medals a upscale appearance.  Outstanding medals from my perspective anyhow.  Any opinions or information?.....

Some dealers in China say it is one of the most highly prized official medals.   The fellow that graded them thought that 1994 maybe accurate even when the slab says nd or no date.   Could it be the first of the colored MCC?  If not, which year of MCC was the first colored?   You are right, these are extremely rare.  No dealer in China can find another and they have not ever owned one.  No dealer in the US have seen them.   IF you had bought them, then these would not be mine!  In hand they are one of the most gorgeous medals I have held.  Deep colors w/ frosted background and some mirror.  A must see medal to really appreciate them.  Who was the artist?  These guys should have a big upside unless a large stash surfaces and I doubt that will happen.  Need more information.......

Another Chinese coin expert says these were minted in 2005 and not that rare.   Shenzhen mint so it is official MCC.  Mintage is still unknown and one guesstimate says in the hundreds (is that rare?).   The rest are probably locked in a coin dealers safe.......2005 makes sense as the quality is good and when held in hand a real beauty.........any other information?......

This medal was minted by Shenzhen Guobao Mint, look at the photo as following, please pay attention to the edge of the packaging, the character of "SHENZHEN GUOBAO MINT" was imprinted in it.so this medal was minted by official mint.

There are different opinions to mint date.   This is what i was told from several collectors/dealers    1994, 2005, 2009 & 2012.    Which years used this soft pounch?   Could that help determine mint date?   2006 silver panda was last yr of soft pouch as a example.    How about mintage number?  COA?   God MCC are popular.   Is this the only Door God medal/coin?...........

Lucklymoney listed a few Door God sets.    Ebay 321473066019.    2007 Goalkeeper 10,000 mintage.  1 oz silver each.  Wonder where/who has kept all these sets stashed away?........Hopefully this will solve the Door God mystery.......

I think they were minted in 2004,not 2007,Because I have checked some relevant information about them. Not long ago, I searched the whole Shanghai market and Beijing market, but I didn't find one set,At last I got one pair from a collector, but the price I paid for them is double than which Lucklymoeny list.

The fellow that graded them said 1994 maybe the date.   That is too early for the design.   I cannot read Chinese, what does the COA say?   Is 10,000 planned mintage?   What is actual?    The good seller says he has a friend at the mint so is that how he has access to supply?   Does the mint lock up some MCC w/ only a few being allowed to be released?    This God MCC is extremely rare.   Maybe large collectors in China have inside information so they have accumulated these rare medals?   Can anyone contact the Shenzen Guobao mint for more information?  Dang, we finally get to see a COA but it does not answer the questions........
