YEP! I agree! A couple of years ago, these colored dragons in 69 grade, were fetching $700.

This Shenzhen mint 2000 dragon medal has two pandas on the back... Is Peter Anthony going to include it in a future edition of his book?

1983 and 1985 china gold panda

Are those 2 colorized coins? Before you lose track, we are talking about colorized coins in this thread.

But I read from this thread that colorized coins are unpopular, even in China. Especially the doomed 1999. I'll be sure to avoid that coin. :tongue_smilie:

Even a so-called "key date" 1997 S5Y Color Silver Panda PF69 was sold for US$199. What kind of "key date" gets sold for US$199? N7

Quotable quotes:
Don't worry.  There are plenty of Colorized Panda around in China.  Someone once tried to dump 500 of 1999, but nobody wants it since almost no demand in China.  However,  97 1/2oz is different story.
...In the next couple of days,  I found 1 post was selling 500 1999 for $70(450RMB) a piece on xx007.cn.  I thought it was a great deal, but after talking to a local buddy, he advised don't touch these coins due to poor quanlity, lack of demand and big hoarding...

Uhm, the kind I like to buy in large quantities?

But in actuality one of those sales you refer to was a 1997 S5Y Colored Panda 'PF 69' for US$199 (not an Ultra Cameo). The current ask on a 1997 S5Y Colored Panda 'PF 69 Cameo' is US$199 with no Ultra Cameo available for sale. In fact there is only one graded 1997 S5Y Colored Panda for sale on ebay right now.

Only two 1997 S5Y Colored Panda PF 69 UC have sold since January. Only two graded 2001 Panda Small Date, a 69 and 70, (a Key Date) have sold since January. But the 2001 Small Date 69 is several times the price of the 1997 S5Y Colored Panda PF 69 UC.

David, just an aside, what are the differences between an UC and a regular proof? I would very much appreciate your help on this. Thanks.

Apparently it is the difference between the frosted and mirrored fields, as this article suggests

That's for you.

For me, it's the kind of coins I would avoid. I call it low-yielding coins. Hard to find, hard to sell, low profits when sold.
