FUN attendance this weekend
« on: January 09, 2013, 06:06:01 PM »
I'm hoping to attend the FUN Conference this weekend in Orlando, FL http://www.funtopics.com/fun-convention.html.  Although I have never attended a FUN conference before, from what others have said there are many dealers of world coins.  Perhaps there will be a good number that deal with Chinese coins, too?

For anyone who is attending, feel free to give me any tips on how to make the most of my limited time, as my schedule will likely only allow me to attend on Saturday.  I'll just be walking the floor, but if you let me know your table number, I'll stop by and say hello.

KMJ and I have been there throughout the whole show. It has been extremely good for us concerning US coins, not so much Chinese, whether modern or vintage. We definitely did not plan to spend $700,000 at the Heritage auction! It is absolutely full of fresh PQ coins. We only have a few modern chinese coins with us as this show is much bigger for US coins, but feel free to swing by and take a look! Table #1152

Thanks for chiming in, and welcome to the forum.  I think I will still make the trip to visit FUN tomorrow, even though nobody has mentioned that this year's show is good for China coins.  I love the experience of a big coin show, and I always seem to find something of interest.  I collect a few obscure non-China coin types too.  I'll make a note to check out your inventory and say hello.  Cheers, Birdman

I enjoyed my first FUN show in Orlando.  Although a few of the big Chinese coin players weren't there, there was some interesting inventory dispersed around the floor.  Of the dealers present, perhaps not surprisingly, PandaAmerica had the nicest selection of gold pandas.

I went to the show looking to trade a half dozen duplicate 69s and lower grade (67/68) gold pandas of various denominations, and I was able to work some deals with several dealers.  I've included a few photos of the treats I came home with.  I filled a hole in my G1Oz date series; I got a nice, low-mintage gold reminder of the years I lived in New Orleans; and I couldn't resist a 150 year old silver crown from Thailand.

It was a pleasure meeting CCF members Justin, Michael, Peter Y., and Will.

What a great way to spend a day  :001_smile:

I was at FUN both Thursday and Friday. I noticed that the Chinese material has gotten much
smaller, and good deals on Pandas have dried up over the past 6 years.

I was sorry to see that Nick from Majestic Rarities was not there.

Yes, it would have been nice to have other MCC players present.  As it happens, I don’t think I’ve ever been to a show that Nick has had a table, so I’ve missed out on seeing his rarities.

If we are dreaming about the ideal coin show, I think we’d also have PandaAmerica, Arif of China Mint Coins LLC, and Clark Smith, among others set up and showing all of their inventory, available at a discount to CCF members.  Oh, and there would be a private room with an open bar for CCF members to gather and socialize.  Did I mention that Peter Anthony would be there in the CCF room signing copies of the new edition of his book, available to CCF members a full 48 hours before release to the broader public?  And, in the back of the room there are two double doors that open up to a great space displaying the full contents of Wassergeist’s closet http://china-mint.info/forum/index.php?topic=6487.msg39325#msg39325, flown in for our up-close perusal.  Yes, that would be a memorable show.  I guess all we need is someone to sign up to chair the organizing committee?
