Chinese Warlord Medal?
« on: February 01, 2017, 09:31:22 AM »
Hello,
Can anyone help me to identify this medal? It was originally found in a box in Dundee (UK).

I have come across the man shown in the centre of the medal on an old Chinese coin auctioned by Baldwins a few years ago (April 2014). They stated he is an 'unknown warlord' and the coin was dated c.1920. (Photo of coin also attached).

The medal weighs 33g and is approx 6cm wide.

Any help would be hugely appreciated!
George

George,

The medal is minted by General Zhang Xueliang. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zhang_Xueliang )
I think it might be minted in 1930's, after he and his army retreated from North Eastern China, which was occupied by the Japs.
It's quite similar to this one, http://auction.artxun.com/paimai-67835-339170494.shtml

还我河山 on the obverse means "restore our territories" or "return our homeland/territories to us".
张学良赠 on the reverse means "a gift given by Zhang Xueliang" or "by courtesy of Zhang Xueliang"

The second one is a token minted by a Satin shop in Nan King(南京天福绸庄 ).
No idea about the last one.

No idea about whether the medal is rare one or not. Zhang led an army of 300k before he retreated.

You're welcome, I just merely google it, couldn't find auction result, as it was unsold.
