Latest NCS/NGC Results
« on: November 01, 2016, 11:59:44 AM »
I recently submitted 39 gold omp pandas to NCS/NGC.  It has been several years since my last submission so I was very happy with the outcome.  Here are the results:

6 - 70
28 - 69
3 - 68
2 - 67

Size matter.  I have been getting killed on 1oz and 1/2oz, but doing well on 1/20, 1/10 and 1/4.   What is your size distribution?

82-84 1oz are tough to get ms69 even during good times.  Today at the Baltimore show I saw a pristine 1982 1oz, it looked like a ms70, but I have been so unlucky with them I decided to pass at $3800 price, I figured if it graded ms67/68 I would lose $1000 and if it graded ms69 make $3500, 3.5:1 odds are pretty good, but when you have lost that bet 18 times in a row you stop bothering to play the game.

Only coins I bought at the show were 1/10 and 1/2 ms70 at great prices, including a pop 2 1/2 for my personal collection.  The real bargains in the market are the ms70 right now as collectors have stopped buying them.

I feel your pain Arif lol  I have a graded 9 82's without a single 69   And honestly seven out of the nine look like sure 69's I am extremely gun shy of the 82's but I guess that's why I 69 is worth 8K

Not to take the thread too far off on a tangent, but since Arif mentioned it...the MS70 market intrigues me.  I can only speak for myself, but I have a hard time spending the extra money for MS70 coins over MS69 because I so rarely can see the difference myself.  Give me a 10x loupe and an MS68 and I can tell you exactly why it's a 68 vs. 69, or 68 vs. 67.  But 69 vs. 70 too frequently seems like it comes down to whether the grader was in a good mood or got lucky the night before.  In my own personal collection I have many MS70s, but they don't look any better than MS69 to me.  Unlike the grade jumps all the way up the scale to MS69, which I can follow, the 69-to-70 jump just seems completely arbitrary.   I'm sure it's not arbitrary, it just seems that way from the coins I've seen.   Maybe I'm alone in this, and everyone else here can pick out an MS70 from a bunch of 69's, but I just can't.  So it's hard for me to part with the incremental funds for an MS70, because there's no "wow" factor over and above the same coin in MS69.   Maybe I should take a grading class?

Congrats to Chris, those grading results are excellent.  I'd be very excited to get those same results.

Congrats on your grades.  I just sent in a bunch of us coins that I have cherry picked for years and thought that they would be home runs but I just received them and ngc burst my bubble.  Sometimes you just can't win.  I'm usually good at the series and have made money but this time not even close all two grades lower than expected.
I don't have the knowledge or guts to send in my pandas yet.

Congratulation! Chris.

These results suggest gold pandas in a “genuine OMP” can still be graded better than 69, even the coin is in the PVC pouch for 10-30 years. The key is to gain the expertise of spotting the differences between genuine and resealed pouch.

In-depth discussion of the genuine and resealed pouches can be found in the following thread.
