Hmm.  Look an awful like the 1991.  Wish they went back to having multiple pandas like a baby, mommy and/or daddy.  Or two babies.

They sure are getting a lot of mileage out of this basic design...the entire series from 2009 through 2017 is just a bunch of variations on the same theme.   They are different, but still just variations on the same basic background and underlying design.   I miss how the 1995 looked nothing like the 1989, which looked absolutely nothing like the 1999, which couldn't have been more different from the 2000, etc. etc.   That has always been a big part of the allure to me, collecting each year because there was always such great variety.   I confess to having a bit of an "if you've seen one, you've seen them all" feeling about the series since they started repeating the same basic background over the last 5-6 years.

If the entire 2017 1g-30g gold and 30g silver mintage is sold at melt, the price tag would be $2 billion dollars.  If just 1% of those purchases were diverted to master sets 1982-2017, it would translate into roughly 70 sets, which would drive 1/2oz prices up by 2x-3x from current levels.  This is why strong hands hold onto 1/2oz even when prices drop as they have in the last 3 months.

I had hoped that having a new designer for the 2017 and 2018 series (Cheng Chao, according to rumors) would have led to changes of the basic design. Be it as it may there was still enough change to beat most other yearly mint series from other countries.

Furthermore there are effective anti counterfeiting components in this "long running" recent design format.

I am still going to buy my usual annual complement of coins and then some!

I expect exactly the same thing to happen as well. This design pattern has been used for 9 years already, since 2009. The 2017 reminds immediately of the 2014 one though.

They look like a pair of mirrored images if placed side by side, I think.

If one can be said to be mirroring the other it is the 2015 that mirrors the 2014 design.

But this is small talk. The 2017 coin design is final (and looks good to me).

Lets see what the 2018 coin will look like!

Hi, the 2017 pandas are already available in the issuing country. Somebody showed the 5 gold pandas and the silver sheet he got on 28th, the official day of issue. Here is the original URL: http://tieba.baidu.com/p/4840301181#
