Bidding on coins in China

Make your vote and you'll see the results afterwards.

We have received several requests from people interested in this.

We may develop the infrastructure to allow this to happen where you would be able to bid on Chinese auctions and receive secure delivery of merchandise with items safely shipped and insured all the way if there is enough collector demand.

It would be very nice if CCL can work with coin001.com for the purchase of Chinese circulating coins. I am definitely interested.

CCL has a feed of all ongoing Chinese coins in auction at any given time, for example 1357 identified right now from 13 of 102 different auctioneers we track.

You can filter by grade and/or metal and/or vendor and some other neat filters like 'not seen in last 120+ days' or do a keyword search etc.

This is available in English and Chinese. Bidding takes place at the vendor site itself, not through Chinese Coins Live.

At some point we hope to allow bidding within the website for our expert licensees.

Zhao Online have an English website, (YJZX do not), where you can bid but they will only ship within China.

That's interesting,  the market for selling off, now is considered a place for buy in as well.

I think this quite depends on the demand, international shipping isn't cheap, and PayPal attracting fees as well. Being economical for both side of the trading will be a challenge.

If we get to the point where we provide such a service, international shipping would be included in the service charge. As we would ship back items in bulk, this lowers the cost. Can't stand Paypal, where possible, try to avoid it like the plague.

Hi Richard,

If you can manage to get this to work where items will be delivered to U.S. buyers securely, I will definitely sign up for this service.

I think this could work for copper and, maybe, silver coins. My experience is that personal export of silver (as in carried out) is tolerated by Chinese customs. Success is not guaranteed, however. I am constantly stopped and then waved through after a consultation. From what I have seen, bulk quantities would require an export license for each shipment. That is a truly iffy proposition.

I am very skeptical that any significant amount of gold will be allowed to leave the country. Dealers have their methods for shipping out gold, but it is not risk-free and becomes more difficult all the time. There is a reason why the Chinese auction houses turn away foreign business.

In any case, good luck! It would be a welcome service.

Best wishes,
Peter Anthony

Circulting coins will be the easiest ones. As gold and silver are restricted item for passing border.

For at least one auction house, I was offered the chance to select items I wanted and set my price, and then Snowball would bid for me and ensure the coin then got sent to my residence here in the USA. The price for this service, a percentage of the hammer price, was quite reasonable.
