Need to identify this coin please...
« on: August 09, 2016, 06:33:07 PM »
Hi.. I'm new here.

I do construction in Toronto, and found this in the hole we dug.

It's diameter is 27mm and weighs 4.4 - 4.5 grams (my digital scale jumps back and forth, from 4.4 to 4.5 grams).

Curious if anyone knows what kind of coin it is, when it's from and if it's possibly worth anything, which I doubt because I'm never that lucky :).

China, emperor K'ang Hsi (1662-1723), Yunnan mint. However, I think this is an imitation. Both sides are upside down.

Upside down, as if it was cast from on original and everything is backwards?  I think I will clean it, if so.

Thannk you very much for your reply

nothing wrong with the coin itself, just needs to be rotated 180 degrees to be read properly

I had no idea which way was up...
How's this?

Guess I'm pretty much screwed if it was worth anything, as I have now cleaned it...  N9

Rotation is correct now. The coin is genuine. Retail value is about $1 both before and after cleaning.
