L. Giorgi coin
« on: September 05, 2014, 10:31:16 AM »
I came across this coin and can't seem to find out what exactly it is. The side of the coin says L Giorgi and other symbols I can't identify. Can someone help me identify it and let me know what or if it is worth anything? Thanks so much.

Hello,
It is a fantasy tael that resembles a version, Kann B37, sold at a Baldwin's 2013 auction for $1800USD.

The horse and dragon coin, claiming to be from Taiwan in the 1800's, was a fantasy actually made in the 1930's and later. No such coin was ever made. This piece shown here, however, is a fantasy made in the last 10 years or so. The edge suggests the coin was designed by Giorgi, a famous Italian engraver who worked at the Tientsin Mint in China from 1910 to about 1917. Giorgi  had nothing to do with this piece.
