Franks's article is excellent and well worth reading. I hope he comes to next week's coin show in Long Beach so I can tell him personally how much I like it. The story doesn't include individual photos of all four of the flowers on these beautiful medals, though. I can understand why; these are deceptively challenging to shoot well. My set is gilt brass (restricts, I assume) and the metal is highly reflective while the designs from the hand-cut metal dies have very sharp edges. Basically, it is a nightmare to control the contrast of the lighting. Anyway, here they are: bamboo, orchid, chrysanthemum, plum blossom. I hope you enjoy them.

Best wishes,
Peter Anthony

You are certainly an expert on coin picture shooting, Peter. I dread shooting gilt medals because of their reflection. Here is my attempt at shooting them with axial lighting, which is extremely diffused.

No, it is not a rare variety, but I should mention that all these varieties are relatively minor frosting variations and currently unrecognized by NGC or PCGS.   Such frosting variations are plentiful in Modern Chinese Coins.

Outstanding photos and the best of this set i have seen.      I have a gilt brass flower set that is considered low value medals.      Most gilt brass are at the bottom of the pile but i really like some of the gilt i have seen.      Gilt has its own look or beauty and are very cheap.    I think gilt medals are very undervalued and unappreciated....

One of your major achievements here was to avoid the image of the camera being captured by the mirrored coin surface.
