Title: Behind the Scenes in Shanghai: A Numismatic First
Post by: PandaCollector on December 06, 2019, 10:12:04 AM
The future of coins was the main topic at the world's first coin designer conference. From clay to computers, it was happening in Shanghai in November. Eleven top international coin designers joined many of China's most renowned artists to share ideas and methods. CoinsWeekly and Peter Anthony dropped in to see what it was all about:

Interesting.   Chinese artists are the best and the world copies them.     Here is a medal i found on ebay, official mint about $50.    Rare to find gilt medals, official mint on ebay for cheap....

1994 mint directors conference.     Similar to your article this must be where the big wigs of mints get together probably yearly.    They probably minted only a few for the conference.     Who knows?     In hand it is high quality and looks like gold layered not gilt.     Note the scallop rim and the hard cap has a ring to hold the scalloped rim.    This prevents the center of the medal from rubbing against the hard cap.   A cheap beauty....

This is the medal issued for the 2019 Shanghai Coin Designer Forum. The designer is Mr. Luo Yonghui. As it happened, during Heidi Wasteet's presentation at the Forum she called the nautilus shell, "nature's perfect shape." I think that explains Mr. Luo's subject choice for the reverse design.
