Title: 2020 Panda Coin Image - First Look
Post by: PandaWill on October 11, 2019, 01:12:29 PM
Hi, we got this image from the China Mint & i figured it might be of interest to some of you here.  although it's been on the news in china already, it was our first look at the 2020 panda gold & silver coin.  the 2020 panda is on the right hand side.  the junior panda is the baby from the 2019 coin, growing up.

Thanks for sharing.  Any word on mintage caps.  I can't imagine they got anywhere near the cap in 2019.

Anyone know why it’s so difficult to locate the 2020 30g Silver panda?  I can’t seem to find them anywhere, at a decent price? APMEX has them for $33.00.  That’s a bit steep for my purse strings.  Any one know where I can pick some up in the US for under $25? Thanks.

Thanks to President Trump, all China coins imported to US have 25% duty.

Buy Peter's 2020 Valentine pandas.      Priced reasonable, great design and silver has 550 mint.      Why pay the premium for huge mintage 2020 silver pandas that will eventually find their way to the West?......

If you are buying one to complete your yearly collection, govmint is usually the best place to buy.  However, as Pandamonium points out why pay any premium for essentially a bullion coin.  When these coins come back into the market I will rarely offer more than $2-$3 over melt and if silver spikes the premium will drop to potentially melt.  Even American eagles the most popular silver coin in the world used to wholesale around $3 over melt, now it is $1.50, wouldn't be surprised to see it trade for melt in 10 years as retirees try to cash out and no millennials step up to buy.  Rare coins are held for multiple generations and the number of new buyers needed to support them is significantly less, so they should do well over the long term.

Thanks for the input everyone. At some point I’ll buy a tray of them, because I really like the image.  But, I won’t buy them for 30+.  Maybe 4.00 or 5 over spot. I really like the last three years of these bullion coins. Pandamonium, I have been buying both earlier year Chinese modern medals and coins 80’s/90’s and the most recent 2000’s.

If you like the design I would recommend buying the 150g or kilo version of the coins around October or November of this year, that is when dealers liquidate their prior-year holdings to pay for following year deposits.  Both bigger coins have much lower mintage and will hold up well over time.

Relatively few 2020 pandas have been imported to the USA so far (compared to prior years). I doubt that there will be any large scale importation of the 2020 panda coins until after the tariff is removed. Will that happen in 2020? The point is that there may not be much dealer inventory to liquidate later this year.

I haven’t done business with this company, but their price seems tariff free.

Nice find, that is about what the asking price for 2020 silver pandas was in Beijing last year. Their price for 2020 gold Pandas does seem to reflect the tariff, though. Like anything, it's while supplies last, I guess.

They are based in Calgary Canada, no tariffs there.  I wonder what happens when they get shipped to the US.

Why don't we see 2020 Valentine silver pandas on ebay?.......

There was a delay in sending those in to be graded. The logistics of shipping this year were far more complicated than in the past. I will bring a few to the Long Beach coin show next week.
