I’m trying to figure out why the price is so high for this 1980 Great Wall yuan. Is there a new variety discovered? Ngc pop ms67 1,092 N20

1980 Great Wall Yuan is in the hype these days, especially the toned ones. This particular coin is re-certified, too.

Usually, coin in pre-2012 holder and recertified green sticker fetches a premium over recently graded coins.  Recently, PCGS and NGC have promoted the copper coins with rainbow tone in several articles. This may create some interesting in this type coin, therefore, the valuation.

These coins are supposed to be a set of bank specimens. But at the moment, there is no reliable way to tell them apart from the regular coins except for the plastic casing they were issued in.
