I remember this set was considered rare. Does anyone know official name and approximate value? Ebay photos....
So far some say rare silver and others say could be silver plate. Easy to confuse this set w/ others....

It is my understanding that 33mm and 23mm lunar medals made by Shenyang Mint during 1881-1992 are copper (brass) only. Shenyang Mint did not have the capability to produce gold and silver plated coin until 1992. Therefore, IMO, most Shenyang Mint lunar medal sets (silver, gold and silver plated) in the market place were produced after 1992 either by Shenyang Mint or private mints.
Based on the pictures posted, the surface texture of the medals suggesting this set is silver plated. I was not aware that Shenyang Mint had produced 1984-1995 lunar medal set as you mentioned in your post. There are three series of luna medal sets produced by Shenyang Mint; 1981-1992 (33mm, 23mm), 1993-2004 (40mm, 33mm, 30mm) and 2005-2012. Something is very wrong.

This set has dates starting w/ 1981 not 1984 as i posted. I did notice the texture as more like silver plate. Will examine/measure and take more photos in a few days. In the past this set was listed on ebay and i was told it is very rare. Like most MCC it is not easy to get accurate info.......thanks Poconopen....

It’s in Mandarin. Any hints as to what is written there?

Thanks for the link Fwang. It looks like the set is 3 stars. There are silver too but the ebay sale 1985 PF 68 silver Ox is not there....
The 1997 silver Ox is listed too at 50,000 plan mint w/ 3 stars. It is very rare in the West that i know of and dealers in China say most are in the home country. See photos....
KOT when you translate it then please let me know as my computer has issues......
